planning a trip to Baja - what sort of preparation?
I have a stock '03 and planning a month long trip down Baja to Cabo. Any suggestions on modifications to beef up my suspension or possibly gain a little clearance. Also looking for a skid plate that is a reasonable price. I already have tires and wheels that will work. Any suggestions are appreciated, especially is you are familiar with the terrain. Thanks, Chris
I drove down that way, but not all the way to cabo. Just only to puerto nuevo, I think that's what it was called. Make sure you have a spanish speaker. I got pulled over by a couple of motorcycle cops caused we looked suspicious. I drove a stock silver 04 wrx wagon. The reason for suspicion......one of the fellows in my car was wearing a camaflage baseball cap. They spoke no english, and I was prepping myself to bribe them, but my spanish speaking friend weaseled us out of it.
I'm not sure if you are doing off road stuff, but I had a hard time on some of the back roads getting to our rental by the beach. Even with all the passangers out of the car, I would still scrap a lot along the bottom, so a skid plate would be of good use. That's the only real problem I ran into. I'm not too much help, just felt like telling my cop in mexico story.
Oh yeah, border insurance for your car. Cops asked for it.
