was there for 11 days, Japans really not as expensive as most people (who usually have never been there) would have you think. Yeah hotels can be expensive, but other than that, japan can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. Japan still hasa middle and lower class, just like everywhere else, and they have to eat, live, and get around too! I food at restraunts was comparable to US prices for the same type of places, I think I spent on average $10-12 for any of my meals, trains are cheap and fast so you save on transpo in the citys, airfare to Japan is cheap, CHEAP! you can fly united right now from SF to Tokyo for $399, ROUNDTRIP!
Hotels in the city are a bit pricey, especially since they charge by the person, so expect to pay about 100-150 a night if you have 2 people in your room and want your own bathroom (what they call a "western" style room) or if you on your own you can stay for about 40-50 a night in japanese style room with shared bathroom(one on each floor)Japan is getting back on its feet after a 5 year recession, in the process supermarket and discount stores have become more and more abundant, so many of the stories you hear about $10 milk and $15 dozens of eggs are a thing of the past, I was even reading a survey last week comparing prices between Tokyo and New York and the average price for such things as milk, eggs, bread were actually cheaper than the avreage in NY. You should check it out, heres a good site with Japan travel info

EDIT: damn, I just found united tickets for $347 ROUND TRIP!!!
damn, I should just go back right now

Excellent pictures (nice visual aid).
Anyway, regarding the misterious building with the "sperm" on top, I think that's the Asahi building, one of Phillip Stark's designs.
