Hi, I'm in the market to buy a GC8 style bodied Impreza. I can't choose whether or not to go for the 98 to 01 Imprezas or the older style, what I notice is that there is not much difference between the bodies of the two cars. The thing I want to do with one of the Imprezas is to mod it, so what would you suggest. A 2.5 RS 98 to 01 or the older type imprezas?
if you are gonna do a heavy mod, get earlier one to save some money and enjoy the low insurance.
if you are just gonna mod the basics, suspention, brakes, exhaust etc.., i suggest you to get 2.5RS so you have a good start point.

Well, my dream car since forever has been the 98-01 Impreza 2.5 RS. However, the problem is that it is kinda expensive for a used car
So basically what I am thinking about mods are a BOV, Intake, Rear and Front Struts, Tein Suspension, Rota 17's or 18's, exhaust...maybe a turbo when I get the money, I really like the look of the GC8 body dunno if its worth getting a new or old still...

Not going to mention the BOV suggestion. But, if you wanted a turbo Subie. I would go with a 96-97 Impreza and look for a good deal on an EJ20 w/turbo, IC, Comput, and wire harness. There are also many turbo kits out there for the GC8. Either way, good luck. I would get GC8 and mod as I got money.

the "older" style body still looks the same minus the rs trim (i.e., hood, wing, side skirts, front bumper, wheels, breaks, and of course the motor)
here is a pic of a 00 rs (canadian style front bumper)

That wasnt very nice. There is nothing wrong with buying a Subaru and not knowing everything about them. You started a good way by telling us what you like, and letting people that know a bit help your decision. Dont buy a Honda, get a Subie. For being a newb, you should get a 2.5RS, then modify accordingly. Swapping a motor/ecu isnt an easy job.
