new to the community.....

hey how's it going everyone. well i'm glad to annouce i'm the proud owner of a 02 wrx...had it about 3 weeks now so i'm still extremly wet behind the ears.

i'm looking into a few parts and was wondering if i could get some feedback before i waste money :P

first off i was wondering if anyone was running the greddy type s blow-off valve and if there were any problems....i might be gettin one like tomorrow as long as i don't hear anything negative. also i'm of course looking into a turbo timer and was wondering if manufacter made a difference or is it pretty much anyone will do. i'm also wondering about boost controllers...same thing does maker matter or not. these are pretty much items i'm looking to pick up immediately then we'll get into exhaust and u-pipe, etc....

i love this car and can't wait to start tunning...hopefully i'll get some good info from this thread....again thanks in advance.

welcome to the world of Subaru

1) don't get an after market BOV unless you are running 20+ psi.. which you wont be on a stock turbo

2) Our cars don't need a turbo timer as the water cooling still works on our cars after it has been turned off.. rather nice

3) boost controllers will not work unless you have after market engine management (Relfash or a UTEC). The stock ECU will have a fit if it thinks something is wrong because it cannot control the boost pressure

I would suggest looking into a reflash ($650-$750) and a turbo-back exhaust ($1000ish for something nice and stainless) instead of wasting your money with the other mods

where are you from ?

Welcome to the board. Most people will tell you that a BOV is useless but I got one anyway because I wanted the sound, I'm a ricer. I just love the sound too much. The one I have is a GFB WRX Hybrid and my car runs fine with it eventhough many will tell you that theirs ran like poop with a BOV. Keep an eye out in the classified section where you can come across great bargains.

yeah that's really my whole take on the situ....i always tell ppl i'm a non-ricer raised on rice....long story short i grew up tunning hondas and such but don't agree with like 95% of the **** i see on the road...but like i tell everyone, one of the main reasons i wanted a turbo was for that sound...and sorry but the stock bov just doesn't give it to me
