Car Info: 2003 Silver Subaru Impreza WRX 5-speed
n00bian here...
Alright, I probably shohuld've learned a little about the car I have before got it, but I didn't. A Subaru WRX is my dream car, literally. I'm 18 and just got it in Jan 06. This is my first car so you might know how happy I am to have one, not to mention it is a Suby!
Anyway, down to the point...
I have so many questions about my car that I know you all or most know. I'll start with one. I've been seeing everyone typing away abot their cars, and what's good, what's not, and I'm just wondering how you know all this info about your car? Stupid question probably but the manual I got just shows me stupi pictures of my dash and what each object is. Doesn't give me stats, or info needed to know. I have been reading a couple threads here and there in each category and been seeing names that have crazy letters and number in the name I've never heard of.
Here to help you further know what my problem is, if you were to ask me what kind of car I have, I'd tell you a "2003 Silver Subaru Impreza WRX"
Other people have kmt and ej20 and all this other crap. I don't understand
Can anyone help me understand what car I have and more info. I am still looking for those types of threads but it seems everyone that comes in here knows their **** about Subies. I'm jealous... I want to start customizing some stuff to it, but I can't unless I knwo what's what and where it goes.
Yes i'm pathetic. Help please.

Welcome to i-Club.
First, thanks for filling out your Location and Car fields in your member Profile. Sometimes new members forget to do so, then might ask questions and other members do not know which model car they drive.
Many common questions can be answered by perusing existing sub-forums on i-Club. There is a Maintenance & Warranty forum where the basics like oil changes and tire rotation are discussed. Your model WRX has an EJ20 turbo engine (2.0 liter) which has its own sub-forum, the Impreza WRX EJ20T (2002-2005) Powerplant forum.
Each forum has a Search feature readily accessible from a link in the top part of the page. Using the Search function, you might find commonly asked questions that have been covered before. This saves time and can also save frustration for both you and those that help out i-Club by answering these questions. General rule is to search first in the specific forum where you think the topic is most appropriate, then possibly an Advanced Search of all the forums if your answer is not found.
Have fun and I hope you are enjoying your Subaru!

Yeah, I remember when I felt like I knew NOTHING about cars; still don't feel like an expert a year later, but READING a lot has helped. The Unabomber Manifesto (don't be freaked by the screename, not only is he way cool, he serves in the armed forces) will help with a TON, also on nasioc (not for the timid) is a list of acronyms: tmic=top mount intercooler, tbe=turbo back exhaust (refers to WHERE the 'after-market (non stock) exhaust' begins: tbe, at the turbo, axle-back: the rear axle, or cat-back: catalytic converter-back); all too numerous to explain here, but it won't take long to see what stage I/II/III are.
One note from an 'old guy' (41): before you buy anything, look into altering yer E.C.U. (called a 'reflash') Not as huge as it sounds, but yer car can go faster RIGHT NOW for a 'reasonable' sum, and anything you do later (exhaust, up-pipe, etc.) will add more power AS LONG AS YOU REFLASH AGAIN. Modding our cars is simple and cool, but the effects won't 'take' until the computer (ecu) sees and accepts the mods. It's pretty clever that way... Cheers, take all with a grain of salt, have fun, oh the places you'll go...

Welcome to the club...no worries about not knowing much yet. I've been learning as I've gone (ok, worded that one weird). Honestly, when I forst got my cars, I was looking for pictures of 2002 STi's but for some reason didnt find too many USDM ones
as for what blurex said, if youre planning on doing much power, I'd suggest getting the Cobb AccessPort for the EM (engine management). This way you can put on the stage 1 (I think thats the one for stock motors) and it'll give you some extra power. The good thing about the AP is that it is easy to grow with. As you get more mods (up-pipe, down-pipe, cat-back exhaust) you can download their off the shelf maps from the internet and flash them to your ECU.
Modding your car can be slightly expensive, but that is a good thing, because it makes you take your time and really research everything. When I got my car I wanted to slap on a CAI and a flowmaster exhaust. While I was saving up I read how horrible the CAI's were and how little the flowmaster would do for performance....so I quickly switched gears. I must say I am very happy with where my car is today
anyways, welcome to the club. your modding addiction will begin shortly....

oh yeah, unabomber's FAQ's will be a great resource for you (its the whole reason I decided not to get a CAI). He has a FAQ for almost any mod you can think of....he even has great info for choosing oil and all that stuff. Just dont join NASIOC....all people do on there is "flame the noobs" and tell anyone that asks a question to search (and when you search you find people asking your same question, being told to search
)

+1 to the ap as a first mod. it's an awesome investment.
