If the new emblem is anything like the legacy (which I believe it is), then it is slightly recessed into the trunk.

I think there will be a small indentation where the badge used to be if you take it off.

I too am starting to love the look of the 2006 WRX. I also used to hate the look, but I love it now, it looks... stronger/bolder. Yeah, I'm gonna wait for an '06...

the 06s indeed have projector headlights like the 05 legacys...
i should be negotiating my 06 wrx wagon this week. just need to wait for a steel gray non-tr non-limited wagon to come in...
