Looking to buy an old impreza
Hey, i just joined the forum to find out a little about imprezas, i'm looking to buy an older impreza (93-95 area) for a daily driver... are they reliable cars? what's their fuel economy? is the interior roomy for transporting people? what price range am i looking at for a strong running car? i'm seeing them on autotrader for as low as $1,500 and with as many miles as 250,000 so i'm assuming they have great, reliable motors...and lastly what are their stock quartermile times? thanks in advance.

Get a AWD model if you are going to do it. That way its easier to pull off a engine swap later on and all of the FWD Impreza L's I've seen so far came with only front discs and rear drum brakes. They are a great car but make sure that there are no oil leaks and that the timing belt has been done if its getting close or time for it to be done.

I assume the awd models make it alot more expensive though...i assumed they were all awd, i'm just looking for something fairly cheap for a daily driver, erm... what's a timing belt, lol i'm pretty new to piston engines, i've got a rotary... i want to have something to drive while i'm working on it and something to take out of town, it does terrible on gas milage.

I'd definately check it out before making any decision on it, and of course wouldn't check it out by myself.
i'm going to college soon and definately am going to need a different car so my 7 doesn't get vandalized or anything sitting in a college parking lot, but also need something cheap because i have to pay part of the bill to send myself to college.

well as for reliability and fuel mileage I redline first and second most of the time and i have never seen less than 22 mpg and that with two other plp in the car and me winding out 3 and sometime fourth on the highway and if you cant find a awd i hear it is not to hard to make it awd because its just bolting in a rear and tranny and maybe different hubs

Why dont you just sell the 7 and pay a bit more for a better car? I know it's probably your baby and you dont want to sell it, we all go through that. Aren't 7's pretty expensive to keep up? I was looking at one a while ago and everything I was reading indicated that they arent very reliable and get poor mileage. Must be fun to drive though.
Im not doubting it. Ive loved rx's for a long time and considered a rx8 instead of the wrx. But after the fiasco with the 93-95's I would never buy a rotary until its proven itself. From what I understand, it's the apex seals that go bad and then that leads to engine failure. On the 3rd gen at least, they made the radiators way to small so they didn't do their jobs and the cars had overheating problems. That conbined with the increased price is why mazda dropped it in 95. What sorta mods do you have on yours?
