Thumbs up It's more than just owning a car

I've had my WRX since February of 2003. In that time, I've realized that owning a Subaru is about more than owning an insanely cool car. Subaru ownership includes with it a community of people from all different walks of life, all different thoughts, feelings, etc.

The community of Subaru owners, and potential owners is an incredible one. It's like having a friend almost everywhere you go, someone to take care of you, watch your back, help if you need it.

Because of my WRX, I've found this board, and because I wanted to meet people in my area, a meet was established. We've had a regular meet going for about 9 months now, and in that time I've become good friends with those who regularly attend the meets. We get together outside of the meets, have small parties, hang out, get dinner, help each other install stuff on our cars, answer questions, give rides, etc.

But I've also met people who either own, or want to own Subarus, who aren't a part of this community, but still have the same spirit as those of use who are.

For example, in Napa, there is a guy there who works a winery and owns an '04 STi (black/silver). I was wine tasting with friends, and as always, was wearing my BAIC shirt. I walked in to the winery and the guy behind the counter (whom I found is the owner of the STi parked outside) says "awesome shirt!! where'd you get that?!?". I told him, we started talking about the car and great area roads and it was like having another friend along with us. He hooked up a little heavy handed wine pouring action, I think he even waved the charge.

Tonight, my gf and I walked in to a Sleep Train Mattress Center to buy a new bed. I pull in to a space right out front. The lot was empty as the place closed in 10 minutes. We walk in, start talking about the beds in the place and the sales guy says "so, how do you like your car? I'm thinking of getting one.". From there out, we talked about the cars, about this forum, about the regular Sacramento get togethers (which are held only a few hundred feet from the newly opened sleep train), where he should go to buy the car, etc. Again, it was like having a friend sell my gf and I the new mattress, and I think when he buys his Subaru (most likely an STi), he'll be on the forums.

I love this car and community. Have you had similar experiences, whether meeting owners in random places or potential owners, gotten a hook up as a result of your Subaru ownership? I hope it's like this everywhere

Why, Mr. sonicsuby? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep posting? Do you believe you're posting for something? For more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. sonicsuby. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. sonicsuby. You must know it by now. You can't win. It's pointless to keep posting. Why, Mr. sonicsuby? why? why do you persist??

Actually, all kidding aside, that's a nice post and exemplifies why Alex created i-Club in the first place.

I had been attending UCKK for months before I bought my Suby. Seeing the community and the attitude of other Suby owners made me want that car even more. i-club is awesome to say the least. I still need to get a shirt, and sweatshirt.

I had an 84 (first half of the year..last model before they went to the hard body). That truck was kick ***. I had a minor front end accident in it and the frame got bent (seriously, I was going like 15mph and rear ended a guy (stupid me)).

Luckily, though, my friend weighed like 350lbs and he was able to straighten it out for me..BY HAND. It was only a small part at the front though. Then we were installing a new bumper, we couldn't quite get it to line up right, so we slowly drove the truck up against the house until the holes lined up, bolted the bumper on and backed away.

It made some horrible noises, but it held on

My sentiments exactly. I've been a part of a lot of different car "fraternities" and the Scooby community is the most well-adjusted, good buncha guys and gals yet. Total ownership experience.
