impreza name question
No one really seems to know. Could be a play on the word impressive. Also Polish for party. Could just be marketing jibberjabber.

The story behind Impreza is not too impressive (sorry, couldn't help the pun hehe). The Japanese have always had a fascination with European languages, and this often surfaces in the naming of their products, automotives being no exception. Often, Japanese grasp of foreign languages is iffy at best, hilarious at worst. Hence, many product names are either simple or just inaccurate. A common trend in the auto industry is to give cars Italian or Italian sounding names. Hence we have such names as the Toyota Altezza, Toyota Vitz, Suzuki Capcino, Mazda Atenza, and of course our very own Subaru Impreza.
As a side note, aftermarket companies seem to like German better. Hence, Volk Wheels and Blitz Tuning
