impreza model acronyms???
first off i'm new here. i don't have an impreza yet, but am looking for one. i'm just curious of what the terms are most use for their models. gc8, gr8, etc....
i am in the market for an 08-11 model and want to know some info. wrx models are rare, and either out of my price range, or have over 100k.....which i want less than 60k. so the 2.5i is more my idea. coming from a base cobalt the extra 30hp and all wheel drive are very welcomed. plus power options. never know how much you'll miss them until you go back to the stone age. lol.
i'm kinda looking for some info on bolt on performance, audio ideas on how to keep swc, and things of that nature. i will not be buying anything other than an impreza, or possibly a legacy gt if i can find one. lol. thank you all in advance.

They are the letters from the chassis code that describe the type of car.
1 First generation (1992–2000; GC, GF, GM)
1.1 WRX
2 Second generation (2000–2007; GD, GG)
2.1 WRX
3 Third generation (2007–2011; GE, GH, GR, GV)
3.1 WRX
3.2 WRX STI
4 Fourth generation (2011–present; GP, GJ)
4.1 XV
Full info is on Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Impreza_WRX
Newer WRX might be rarer out East, but should be able to find a Forester XT which is still a fun car. There's a lot of suspension, appearance, and things from the WRX that fit the 2.5i, but bolt on performance parts likely won't be anything significant. If more performance is what you're after then WRX is is a better option.

There is basically no available bolt-on modification that will increase the output of the engine substantially. You would need to invest many thousands for a ~30-50HP gain. Get an exhaust that sounds good to you and be happy with the power you have, or buy a turbo model.

now the acronyms are for different models. its just most i see only go to the 2004 model.........the 2.5i has 30hp more than my ****ty cobalt, but a 2.5 with exhaust, intake, headers, intake manifold, will be roughly the same cost as the 65k difference from a 2.5i and WRX. that is my question. the wrx's around here are 120k or $20k....i'd rather have a 14k n/anand have 6k for suspension, performance, and audio.

2. There are many options for audio. An aftermarket headunit will be a huge bump from the crappy stock headunit. Speakers and subwoofer will make a massive difference.
3. The best bang for buck mod IMO is suspension. Then Aesthetics. I wouldn't waste money on intake or exhaust to be honest.... But whatever floats your boat.
Goodluck!

engine parts will not work. and theres no way you will gain 30 from bolt ons with the 2.5i. even exhaust and intake may get you 10hp, but even then........
all hu will work. you just need the audio harness so you dont have to tap into the oem wires and also the hu mounting parts.
