Hey guys any suggestions would be appreciated.

so here's the situation, i took my car to get my check engine light checked after hearing a whining sound when i drive and here's the reading. cylinder 3 and 4 are misfiring, and an engine valve gas leak. I'll be bringing it into the mechanic tomorrow to get a diagnoses on what is causing the misfires and if it costs too much to fix it i'm wondering is an engine swap alot cheaper?

if it is cheaper to engine swap anyone got suggestions? i'm told an 04-05 sti engine might work but that's just from one person who owned a wrx long ago so he's not too sure.

my car is an 02 wrx 114k on it.

 

Idk if it would be cheaper. Getting an OEM 04-06 STI shortblock will run you 2k. EDO performance is the only place I know that sells a new stock Sti shortblock. Then you need to buy Sti heads or do a hybrid and work on you current heads. That's some $ right there. Then taking everything out and in then tuning...

I would just get your motor all worked out. If anything I would find a Wrx longblock to pick up if you get a good deal.

But to answer your question yes, Sti blocks will drop right in.

It will honestly depend on what the issues are.

For me when I had problems, it was a dead piston and i was right around 103k miles.

So i would have had to pull the motor, machine work, new pistons and the 105k (timing belt, water pump ect ect) service. If you find good deals for a STi motor, the cost of parts + labor could equal out to about the same as fixing what you got.
