i feel sorry for you blokes
hi all i am new here and from australia and from what i have been told you guys didn't get the wrx in america until the end of 2001 or the turbo model anyway.
well i feel sorry for you guys because the best models were the 96,97,98 for mods and power they **** all over the new models and the older models were almost 200kg lighter than the new ones to.
i have a 98 model and the guys that are buying a new one have to add an exhaust and a bit of boost and a pod filter to get the same times mine did stock standard.
it ran a 13.7 stock standard where the new ones are only just able to stay under the 15 sec mark about 14.7 to 14.9.
to give you a good idea i will compare my car to a mates car which is a 2003 model.
he had put a full 3 inch exhaust, t4 turbo, fmic, about 22 psi of boost water spray kit, pod filter and after market ecu to run a 12.7.
i on the other hand only have a 3 inch exhaust,vf23 turbo, chiptorque chip and a pod filter and only 17.8 psi of boost
to run a 12.5.
as you can see he has spent about $10,000 more than me yet he is still slower.thats how big of a difference there is between the new ones and the old ones you couldn't get there.
if anyone over there has the money import a 98 model out of japan or even here in australia and you will spank all other wrxs on th road with half the mods.
i thought about updating to the new model until we worked out how much slower they really were.
i will tell you one thing though i wouldn't mind the enigne out of one of the new 300hp buggers you guys are getting because they arent realeasing them here. the bastards lol.

Ah there you have it.... Gleaming proof of 2 of my biggest Subaru related beliefs:
1. GC8 is the shiznit. Always has been always will be.... Faster and looks better to boot! (now us RS guys just need to get the faster thing down with some more turbo kit group buys and motor swaps)
2. Quit complaining about how OUR STi motor isn't as good as the JDM one. The rest of the world does not give a rats **** about more cats, FIA WRC homologation and more power stock. Nor do they believe more displacement is a bad thing... They WANT what we have in their cars.

...Told ya so!

So let me ask you, what is your point? It's already common knowledge that the US gets screwed when it comes to imports. Why repeat it? I can post the same and gloat about the '04 STi that we are getting that the rest of the world doesn't, but that's pointless. It's like..ok.......WHATEVER!!! POINTLESS.
Can you run your stock 98 on 91 octane gas, pass california emissions, and produce a 13.7 1/4 mile? I didn't think so kangaroo boy.

I have an O2 WRX which is completely redone right now.
However, I ran 12.8 on the following mods 2 months after I got the car.
VF22, 80mm turbo back, uppipe and IC hoses and engine management. Stock injectors, stock fuel pump and stock IC. 18psi.
Explain that, mate...
Of couse, GC8's are lighter. Thats a plus, but a GD can go just as fast.
So, you are not correct 100%.
I do agree, that pre-Ver IV, Subaru motors were a lot better. That doesn't mean you cannot have similar if not identical results with GD.

Its true though, just do a WRX swap into my 95 L (IE 2600lbs) and watch it run 12's!
Thats what we do since we dont have any of the old school rex's, we just do swaps

well guys i wasn't trying to bag you out or anything like that just saying that you missed a really good car.
as for the 91 octane fuel our regular unleaded is higher than that but we use premium unleaded which is 97 to 98 octane.
it's not our fault you get **** fuel so you just do the best you can with what you have.
explain that well i cant mate other than i doubt it very much because of only one factor you have upgraded the turbo and ecu but not the injectors or fuel pump.
mate your engine should have gone bang by now.
but hey if you have a time slip or video of your run i suppose you did.
wait till you try and get that time quicker thats when the dollars start comming into it.
what i cant understand is why you guys think i was baggin you out.
it sux you guys are getting the new one and we aren't but then we are getting the 6 cyl wrx sti they are releasing in a bit over a year and you guys aren't so it evens out.
thats if the can make a gear box strong enough to take the power of the boxter 6.
have you guys heard about this monster subaru is building.
at the moment they cant get gear boxes to hold up to the power out put.
it is very hard to find any info on this car and i have looked everywhere the only reason i know they are building it was because i saw the head of subaru talking about it on a tv show i was watching.
if any of you know anything about this car or where i can find any info on it.
