i-Club Project STI: Making power on the stock turbo...

As most of you know, one of our project cars is a 2006 STI. Our new goal for the project aside from doing product reviews and testing is to see what one can really make with relatively simple mods and a stock turbo.

As it stands right now, with just an APS TBE and tune, we are pushing just under 330whp with significantly more torque. We are going to attempt to push what is generally accepted as the limits of the stock turbo and basic upgrades to attempt to see numbers in the higher 300s and we have a few tricks up our sleeves to do so without breaking the bank. The end test will be to put it up against and basic upgrades Evo on the dyno, drag strip, and road course. We are pretty confident we can nail it on all three, but we will see.

Some of the items in store for it are:
ALK
Camber plates
RCE Springs
Sways
Street/track pads
Wheels/tires

A variety of intake options
Header - (end the header debate once and for all)
Lots of tuning
And possible intercooler comparisons

The car already has:
Recaro Seats
SS Brake lines w/motul fluid
Whiteline steering rack bushings
APS TBE
ecuflash dyno tune

So I am curious to know what you guys think we will be able to achieve HP/powerband wise, any suggestions, and if there are any comparisons or simple upgrade debates you would like us to test.

330awhp - what octane?

What are you guys using for boost control? Are you using the 3.5" APS?

Some nitrous would be cool, maybe even some meth...

It is the standard 3" APS TBE and a correction...its actually 320 at the moment with over 340 tq with a peak of under 18psi using stock boost control through ecuflash. The GM BCS goes in today and being retuned for more boost. Should see 330 today at the wheels.

The reason we are doing an intake is because we are trying to squeeze every last bit out of the stock turbo and that is the only way to do it. We will be trying out the intake tube and to larger MAF section. Full-Race is very confident wewill see a very significant gain from their manifold. I am betting we can get it up to at least 360whp if not more without any type of water/nos/alky injection.

We also want to clear up any debates or myths relating to intakes, headers, or intercoolers. If we can, we are going to throughly test front mount vs good top mount.

Also, as a side note, before starting, we had 302whp with just a downpipe and OTS tune

did you do a base run with the car completely stock?

and what kind of dynomometer are you using? I assume we're talking about 93 octane?

No baseline and yes, that sucks. Our goal however is not to make comparisons to stock but rather see what the msot you can get is and make comparisons amongst different aftermarket solutions.

It is on 93 and it was on a land and sea dyno. For our final result, we are going to dyno it on a dynojet and mustang dyno as well. For the various comparisons and parts along the way, we are going to stick to this one.

cool. I'm interested to see what the comparison is between dynos, because my tuned TBE STi put out about 265/295, but that was on a mustang and on 91

A mustang definitely reads lower and 91 makes a difference, but that seems overly low.
