How long did you take until you redlined?
I broke a 1000 miles a couple days ago, and followed the manual and didnt take her over 4k rpms until about the very moment i hit 1k miles. Even at a 1000 miles i only pushed her up to 5k rpms. I also got an oil change a couple days after. I was just wondering how long people waited to redline their cars? or how they worked up to that point. Thanks!
Sorry about the quality of the picture, it was hard to take it with my camera phone while driving.

Just because you hit 1000 miles, it doesn't mean to start whipping the hell out of your car (I know that isn't what you meant). If you want to drive hard, start to do it gradually.
i was pretty an@l-retentive about that. drove it like a baby for the first 1k miles. then i brought it up to 4000rpm for the next 300 miles after that, then 5000rpm for the next 300 miles, etc etc.
hahaha...i was basically at 2.5k miles before i redlined it.
just like good seks...you don't jump right in...or do you? hahaha.

I was pretty good about keeping mine under 4000 until I hit 1000 miles however I will admit there were a few occasions mine went above that for a short period of time but I still got nowhere near redline. I'm still just shy of 1400 miles and i tend to shift around 3000 most of the time for the sake of fuel economy but I make it a point to run to redline in atleast the first two gears atleast once a day. Besides the fact that it is fun, it is good to run your engine the whole way though the rev band from time to time. Among many other things it will help blow any moisture and carbon buildup out of your exhaust. Also very important for new owners is avoiding constant rpm driving. This is just as important as keeping revs under 4000rpm.

I never redline it if I can help it. It happens occassionally if I miss a gear, but it's rare. However, I didn't really baby it. In fact, I think I took it out drifting the day I brought her home.

I redline mine every day! Why not?
(Probably makes more sense with my car since I have a 6000 redline, 110hp, and bought the car with 98k miles, LOL! )

If any of you have looked at the dyno chart of a stock WRX or STI, you would see a catastrophic drop in power at 6k and beyond, as the ECU cuts boost to save the turbo. Thus, there is no point in actually running to the redline or rev limiter, in any gear. Shifting at 5.5 is a much more optimal way to drive.
