How do I figure HP

With the smell of pineapple, the vision of half-clad women, and oh-so-perfect climate, I guess I have no right to complain about anything, but...Hawaiian tuners refuse to buy a dyno!!!!

I have a Delta-Dash and even a Gtech. I have seen countless 'horsepower calculators' on the web, but the powermeter toys I have and the online calcs are inconsistent and inconclusive to me. (also, I had never been into cars prior to moving to the island.) I think the online calcs are setup for 2wd cars, too.

If I have a 3400lb wagon (now 3449), and run a 12.798 @ 104.63, what is probably my crank hp and wheel hp? How about tq?

Thanks

Pat, besides a dyno, I've seen some people put an estimate on bhp and whp based on 2wd dyno calculators then doing some sort of formula taking the difference between the drivetrain loss of a 2wd car compared to Subaru's awd system drivetrain loss. I'm not good in math so if anyone's good in it, help me

Yeah, you know I've never read about anyone throwing a WRX on an engine dyno. We always throw figures around about the drivetrain loss for the Subaru, but all that makes for is good discussion, huh?

list of mods???

i would estimate based on my friend's dyno and his car was comparable to a stage 2 tuning from vishnu that is supposed to run 12s hrrrmmmm 265-280 hp at the crank??? i forgot the calculation that you would do to figure out the crank hp from whp..hopefully posts a better answer then me lol

I've got a UTEC, vf30, pde up & down, greddy evo catback (at the time I made my pb), PWR TMIC, re92's on the stock 16" rims.

3407lbs w/ driver & full tank (which it was pretty close to that night)

Xylene (116 octane) and 92 pump gas blend which I estimated to be at 94.8 octane (OT: I understand that xylene gives me better octane, but not necessarily the same amount of heat and flame speed as race gas)

Did your friend ever dyno. I guess what might answer my question (I'd like to know both crank and wheel hp, but I'd be happy just to know wheel hp) would be if your friend's car weighed nearly the same, got a similar time/trap to me, and what he had dyno'd at prior to that pass.

Thanks

Can't vouch for the accuracy, but this is pretty close to what I've estimated.

okay i think i got myself mixed up with the whp, bhp and hp stuff, always get confused with that stuff...but i thought the 227 is not whp but just hp, which would mean that 227hp = less for whp for a stock wrx...correct me if i am wrong...i may just be getting myself all confused right now or i think i phrased it wrong when i posted prior..at the crank = manufacturer's hp?? and at flywheel = whp?? yeah?? gotta get my terms correct ... sorrys lol

"After all, we all know how much engine horsepower our stock car makes by just looking at the manufacturer's claims. But wheel horsepower is something all together very different. It does not take into account frictional losses caused by the drivetrain. That's right. The transmission, differentials, axle joints, etc., suck up their fair share of horsepower. As you can imagine, a car's wheel horsepower is always lower than its engine horsepower."

http://www.vishnutuning.com/stage.htm

you have approx. what they estimate for there stage 2

btw how did you tune you ECU to match the mods without a dyno? did you highway tune it?

If you downloaded the maps from someone and didnt tune it yourself Im sure that person should know the WHP

Thanks a bunch. Lower than I thought (I know different dynos produce different numbers), I thought I'd be 280 or so. This is just something I've always been curious and the logical answer seemed to be to post the question "Hey, if you've trapped 104 in the 1/4 and have had your car dyno'd, what was your hp?". I didn't do that because I figured it would probably turn into a bunch of argument.

Yeah, it was all road tune. I'm not going to lie, I used Is2scooby's fuel map and then tweaked it. That is one smart dude. He and I both played with the timing, and I did up the boost because he uses the Joe P MBC.

Thanks

After my little stint here, I'll get back to the land of the infinite highway. The land where the import isn't 100 times as prevalent as the domestic. The land of more than one racetrack. The land of where shipping isn't as much as the product.

God I can't wait!

The only thing I'll miss is the HIIC.
