hesitation question

I have just a few questions regarding the stock WRX engine/driveability issues.

I notice a slight hesitation under acceleration (wide throttle opening, but not fully open) after 3Krpm. I have read of modified WRX's having this problem under acceleration due to 'boost spikes'.

If the throttle is opened completely, the engine sings through to 7K pretty easily. It is only under wide (but not 'floored') openings that I experience the slight 'bumps' in the powerband.

Is this a normal quirk of the factory engine management? And if so, can it be 'tuned ' with aftermarket ECUs etc.?

Has anyone performed back to back tests at the strip to determine if removing the air intake silencer adds any engine response? I removed mine a few months back and then re-installed it due to noise.

What is the answer with the cold morning clutch shudder?

I am new to Subarus, I have spent 15 years in the air-cooled VW drag racing circuit, but have found a new love (the WRX).

Thanks for your time,
