help, ref station ticket!

hey everyone, i could use a little advice. i live in fremont, california, and today got pulled over for tint, and ended up with a tag to go to the ref station for my intake and exhaust. the intake is a fujita and the exhaust is an aps catback. i cant find any info as to whether or not either piece is c.a.r.b. certified, and i don't have any of the stock parts as the car came this way from the previous owner. its passed smog perfectly every time, but theres no way around what they'll see when i take it in. if anyone has any ideas, or stock intake and exhaust for an '04 wrx waggy, please let me know. thanks, J.

I'd try a search in the BAIC area for ref station. People post up there quite a bit in regards to getting ref tickets.

From what I recall catbacks do not need C.A.R.B. exemption numbers. They just need to be below 95dB as measured via a specific test.

For your intake I'd just do a search in BAIC as this question has come up many times.

mufflers have to be below 95 db, so unless you got some crazy loud muffler you will be fine. As far as the intake is concerned, if you blow clean I dont think there will be a problem. Search the CA vehicle code for specifics, its all online, and pretty straight forward.

Your best bet is to buy a used stock intake. Check the classifieds or craigslist; ads pop up every so often. As others have said, the exhaust should be fine as long as it's a catback and is under 95dB. If applicable, remove any other mods between the intake and the last cat. No aftermarket uppipes, downpipes, BOVs, etc. Inspectors at the state ref are sharp, nothing gets by them. Good luck.

What is the BAIC? I googled it and many different things came up....none of which looked like it would have this info.
