have you ever heard of this
i went to the dealer to day to test drive the WRX . i give the sales man my drivers lis so he can go and copy it. guy comes back said everything is all good .......but we need to run a credit check i said no you cant . now i have a good job that pays well but im not let them do that do test drive a car.anyway the dealer said i cant drive the car then. and the whole reason for it because im 27 and there not going to let me drive a 25,000 car because im 27 and they want to make sure i was going to buy the car. well i start to go and told them that just lost a sale nice job guys.
now i tested an Acura RSX no prob. $27,000 honda no prob hell the dealer gave me the keys and said have fun.and the best was the test drive on a BMW.no probs. well i going to contact SOA and tell them what great dealers they have.
anyone ever come across something like this?

Yes, when I was a young man just starting out in the work world I went to test drive the 1980 Honda wagon. They said that they didn't do test drives, just sold the cars as soon as they arrived.
Salespeople will make their sujective calls as to whether a potential customer is worth their time or not. Sometimes they're wrong. I think it's a factor of their ego struggling with what is essentially a crappy, no future job. It's their moment to be in control.
They should realize that every person could be a potential customer-for-life.
True Customer Service is rare these days.

Just go to another dealer and look at the car. Also tell that dealer of your experience at the first Subaru store. They will tell that to future customers and try to get them not to go to the bad store. I am in the car business, just not Subaru. We have run credit checks before test drives but, only when the customer requested it. Like, can you run my credit to see if I am approved before I fall in love with it?...pre-qualifying is a very bad thing to do. but that dealer may get 50 people a week who want to drive the WRX just to bash it and this is how they want to get rid of that problem. I have heard of wanting $5,000 deposit to drive a Viper. but the funniest was someone last year told a customer they wanted a $3,000 deposit to test drive a Hyundai Tiberon..

subaru dealers
yea MANY dealers...whether subaru or not are VERRY **** about thier cars. and of corse for all the wrong reasons. I did a test.
One day I went to the subaru dealer , pulled up in my dads 90 corolla. went inside and after browsing around for a while because they where to "bussy" to help me I finaly spoke to a salesman about the WRX. I asked if i could testdrive the car. well after about 5 minutes of bull**** about him having to get my insurance report and the managers permission i gave up and went home.
The next week I drove back to the same dealership in my MINT 98 rs. now...being 18 years old (at the time) im was not exactly a teenager...but then again i was not exactly an adult =). But they didnt care. When they saw me pull up ....who do you think greated me @ the door? that verry same salesman ! and whata u know....no friggin insurance check or anything....just KEYS in my hand.
o yea BTW...I would never actualy buy a WRX........GC8 for life !!

wow, thats crazy.... or unless the dealer i went to is amazingly stupid. they asked for my drivers license, but he looked at it, and tossed it back, gave me the keys and told me not to get pulled over. i thought it was sweet that they let me test drive it by myself.... when i took the car back, i told them i would take the blue one, and drove it off the lot about 3 1/2 hours later. im 20 years old btw.
