going from Accord to the WRX or STi (question from my friend)
Well, basically, he's in the same spot as I am, looking for a next car.
He drives a 1999 Honda Accord with an I4 and a slushbox. Not exactly speed demon, but good for learning to drive, like my Camry.
His question is kind of silly, but I told him I would post it (he has no I-Club account). He wants to know if the WRX will be enough power and handling to put a smile on his face every time he drives it, or is it not going to be enough. Should he just save for a while longer and get the STi? He drives pretty aggressively, and auto-X's. He does not want to mod the car he gets very much right off the bat.
However, he wants a car soon, and isnt sure if the fun of driving a WRX right away is going to be worth missing out on an STi that he could save a few months more and afford.
Opinions?

I think the WRX would be fine. Especially coming from an Accord 4cyl with auto. The only thing I wish I had the STi for is the torque. I'm still happy as hell wtih my WRX though.
Well, I have an STi and my brother has a WRX and well,... before I got the STi I used to drive his car a bit and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. It was crazy fast and always made me happy and put a smile on my face when driving it. But now that ive gotten used to driving the STi when I drive the WRX it almost feels anemic until 4000RPM then all of a sudden whoosh. Its still fast but Ive been poisoned by the STi. I say get the WRX cause its loads of fun!

wrx is a great car, but if you drive an sti then the wrx will not feel as fast.
exactly why i don't want to drive an STI, since i can't buy one, i'll just stick with my wrx

My brother drives an STi, and I drive a WRX. Yes, the STi is very fast, but in my daily driving, WRX's turbo feels more dynamic since I actually get to frequently push it to 4-5k without reaching WAY beyond safe speed territory otherwise with the 2.5 turbo. In that sense, it's more fun to drive. Of course, if he's planning to autocross, it's more or less a no brainer decision since STi comes with bigger brakes, huge amount of track-usable torque, and a more bulletproof tranny.

^^ more like STI vs. WRX
If he is hardcore into auto-X and truly doesnt want to put $$$ into mods, he should save up and get the STI. keep in mind though, that insurance is commensurate with the cost of the vehicle

Well of course you cant compare them. he isnt trying, just wants to get a sense of improvement.
dub2w, for me an STi is $1700/6 mo. and a WRX is $1600/6mo. Then, for some odd reason, an Evo is $1500/6mo. Insurance companies make no sense whatsoever. If Mitsu wasnt raping everyone on the warranty, I'd already be driving an '04 Evo. But I dont want to put up with that crap, and when I told him about all of that, neither did he.
Meh, picking a sportbike was so much easier than this.

Been There
ah u guys were in the same situation i was in (used to drive a 98 accord sedan) well its been a month now since i got the wrx and i couldn't be any happier, but the one thing i missed from my accord was the tranny it never gave me shyt in trying to go to 1st gear but all that is fixable. if i were u guys i'd save some money on the side and get some better tires if like to do spirted driving in the corners, or go for Cobb/Vinshu stage 2 so u can hang w/STI's

Your friend should trade in the accord for the STi. You dont have to get the 2005 but 2004 you can fine for a good price. If he cant afford the STi then the wrx is a good way to go. Both car will put a smile on his face. He should go test drive a wrx some dealer have STi for test drive.

been driving my wrx for over 2 years now and it still puts a smile on my face, everytime i drive it... even after driving my dads crazy fast cars (he has a 280z that would put a wrx to shame, and a 300zxtt that would put an sti to shame)
