GSX,
what ever car you by,my advice, ask to see the invoice on the car that you are buying.never go off the MSRP or sticker price.invoice price is what the dealership pays for the car.MSRP is what the manufature thinks the car should be sold for.here in CA they have to show you the invoice.just try to save you some $$$.

I agree with jdepould, too much going on with an STi for an inexperienced driver. No sense in spending that much coin and wrecking it.

I'd say get a regular WRX, it's still pretty potent, but definitely more forgiving.

before I got my impreza, i was thinking sedan, but ended up with a wagon....best thing that ever happened! spend the money on a nice wagon and put the extra cash towards some mods.

That's rough. Have you considered calling Child Protective Services?

I'm sorry I have no sympathy for the fact that you might end up with a CHEAPER car. given the fact that even though my parents are extremely well off, I was never handed anything... and damn it, you take MUCH better care of your car when YOU buy it... I disagree with Imprezers comment on standard WRXs being of no advantage... I disagree strongly...

I can afford a WRX or an STi... why am I going the WRX route? It's all a matter of opinion... Do I need that big wing? Do I need DCCD? Do I need to hear every noise in the road... Or would I sacrafice a little speed for a little comfort and refinement.. I understand the WRX is no luxury car... but the standard definitely outdoes the STi as far as comfort is concerned, and with simple mods, reaching the STis potential is NOT hard... So yes, to some there is a huge advantage in picking up a WRX instead of a WRX STi... not to mention all the attention an STi grabs... also... the 06 WRX will have the SAME motor as the STi... try and keep your pants on for that one... of course it will be detuned... but anyone who is an enthusiast will make sure they get it up to speed

Are you sure you want a WRX??? I mean really is that the car you desire? Be honest with yourself, dont let any outside influences reflect your decision... and no offense but the Jetta has very sloppy suspension, esp given that its technically built for comfort, not handling... You need to decide what YOU want in a car... list everything you NEED in a car.... then, list everything you prefer. finally, list everything you dont want.... THEN research the car market for the RIGHT CAR for you... not the car that turns heads, or the car thats faster than your friends... Find your passion, and make a match or you will grow VERY tired and not appreciate your vehicle...

I agree with some of this, but not all. Saying that being given a car means a person won't take care of it is not totally accurate. IMO it really depends on the person, I'm not going to lie and say I payed for 100% of my car, and 100% of repairs, however, I did pay for more than half of my car, and I do pay for most repairs (once in awhile I'm short on cash). If someone is really an enthusiast they will appreciate what they've been given and treat it with the respect it deserves. I know there are people that are given things and treat them like crap, but that's not true across the board. Just my $.02

Get the STi if you can, hands down. I own an 04 WRX but I recently test drove my friends STi and all I have to say is WOW!!! It pulled like no one's business and I love the trans on the STi way better. The only thing, my left leg got tired after a few minutes lol.
