Former Domestic Newb
Hi all. I just traded my modded 03 Cobra (461 rwhp) for a bone stock 04 Sti- right down to the stereo delete. (due to some unfortunate economic circumstances I had to opt for a less expensive car)
So far I am pretty impressed. This is the 2nd Suburu I've owned- the first was a 87 wagon. While it can't touch (yet) the straight line acceleration of the Cobra the difference in the twisties and the initial acceleration is night and day. I can't wait to start modding and making some real whp. I also hope to get to know you all a little better.
Since I am brand new to the import scene I'd appreciate any tips anyone might have. What should the first mod be? (besides stereo of course) I am not much into appearance mods. I'd much rather BE fast than to just look fast or sound fast.
Thanks all. Peace!!

Welcome to i-Club.
How are the tires on your '04? If they have been replaced with cheapies, you might want to make sure that you have a good set of sticky summer tires like the Bridgestones that were supplied as original equipment or the equivalent.
You might also opt for an adjustable rear anti-sway bar and end links for your car. The rest of the suspension is pretty good right from the factory unless you track your car regularly at a road course. Same goes for the brakes but if the pads are worn there are better and cheaper alternatives compared with the factory pads.
After that, for more power you can consider a Cobb Tuning AccessPORT or ask around at your local i-Club meets to see what others are doing for engine management and tuning.

What is the best exhaust? I know turbo back but what is the best "bang for the buck?" Looking at some of the parts sites it look like at least 1200 bucks. Is that about right? How bout a bigger turbo? I hear the gt35 is pretty mean.
Thanks again for the 411. I'll take a look at the Cobb AccessPort. If it's anything like domestics a hand-held tuner it's a must have.
