Very Nice!
thats cool to finally have it over here. the forester has lacked power in my book. they are actually kinda fun to drive. i like that they are adding the Hill Holder system on 5spd again. i had one on my 93 loyale, worked great. i am curious why it only has 210hp. i guess maybe they were going for the big torque numbers. 230 is pretty good.anyone have plans on buying one when they get here?

So, the Forester gets the 2.5 with variable technology and the WRX doesn't?
Hmm, makes me wonder if next year the WRX will have the 2.5 and the 2.0 will be phased out. Seems manufacturers are taking one great engine and producing it in various forms of tune for specific applications. It makes great sense economically and it gives the vehicles great engines for less money overall.
It would have been great to get the 2.5 in the WRX along with the new body style.
Oh well.
I read in C&D that the Legacy will have a 2.5 single turbo (twin scroll) for the GT somewhere around 260hp, so it's be less than the current twin turbo.
But, it will be tuned for better torque overall and less lag.
They also mention that a 3.0 H6 might be the choice for a hot rod model
Lecagy, perhaps the STi version. I know that's been discussed on this list but the discussion was about the 2.5 or 3.0. It seems perhaps they may use both.

Car Info: 02 WRX wagon=dead; rollin' in a Craptastic Camry!
I had a loaner Forester for about a week. The suspension is super duper soft, the usable storage space is really no different than my WRX wagon and the back seat had about the same amount of room.
I don't get it unless you live in the country and have to travel crappy roads all the time...I'm not saying they arent' good cars, they just don't do it for me.
It's exciting to hear they are going to do more with the 2.5 turbo engine.

The new forester interior is the best subaru interior ive ever seen, that engine is a baby STI engine and would be easy to mod, and alot of suspension mods for Impreza's also work on the Foresters
I dont think I would get a WRX wagon over the new XT with all the extra possibilities it has
And Fuji, I would love this engine in my car!!! OMFG!!!

come on! the hill holder is the coolest thing subaru ever made! well maybe not quite the coolest, but a very nice thing to have. i know how to drive a 5spd, don't get me wrong, but when you can take off w/o rolling back at all or slipping clutch at all i think its pretty cool. and using the e-brake does not work anything like the hill holder.

well on the older cars when they had a cable activated clutch, when the clutch is depressed all the way it pulls on the hill holder system which would put brake pressure on the front brakes. it used the e-brake actuator, b/c loyales had front e-brakes. its a small spring loaded mechanism thats mounted on the drivers side inner fender well. they also had to be adjusted sometimes to work properly. however, all the new subarus have a hydraulic system, so i am not sure exactly how those will work. the nice thing was that when stopped on a hill, as long as the clutch was fully depressed you would not roll back. only once released enough would it let the brakes go. so when you start to give the the gas and release the clutch, you only go forward not backward.
and i know all this b/c i have worked on many older loyales, legacys, xts, and brats, as well many newer cars.

This is interesting:
Its almost identicle to the STI engine... Mmmmm...
But the big story is the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. The horizontally opposed four-cylinder is a typical Subaru power plant, but this model uses a more rigid “semi-closed deck” block design than the one equipped in the base Forester. The engine internals feature aluminum-alloy pistons, forged high-carbon steel connecting rods and sodium-filled exhaust valves. Borrowing the variable valve technology — called Active Valve Control System (AVCS) — from the Impreza WRX STi, the Forester 2.5 XT produces 210-horsepower, but the 235 pounds-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm will deliver the punch needed in most real-world driving conditions. Subaru says the turbocharged Forester 2.5 XT will not only run with larger displacement six-cylinder competitors, but it also offers a performance advantage at higher altitudes. And it still qualifies as a Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV) like its normally aspirated kin. Electronic throttle control adds another degree of refinement and performance.

Wow. This is really cool. I've heard they will go on sale late June...Any guess on pricing?
Also, I've read this thing is built off the Impreza platform...Handling dynamics shouldn't be too far off...What do you think?
This is just what the Forrester needed...A variant of the STi engine...

yes, the forester is on the impreza platform, and it is similar in handling, but not the same. its a little heavier in general, and a little more top heavy. i think w/ struts and springs it would handle 10x better. i always enjoyed test driving them at work. i would really like to drive this one!
