FLASHING check engine light
FLASHING check engine light
My car has a flashing check engine light when it is all the way on and when the key is in the acc postion. the car runs fine and stuff. but when the car is in ACC the fans cut on and off randomly and so does the fuel pump. i had the car up on jacks for like a month doing some work on it. was changing the shifter bushings (DONT EVER DO IT CAUSE IT SUCKS TO CHANGE THEM) but i cant figure out what it is and i am little scared to drive it to an advanced auto. i have a 98 impreza L PLZ HELP!!!!!!!
there is a green, one-wire connector under the dash on the driver's side. when that is connected, the car enters a test mode. this test mode consists of all the relays being tested...including all the accessories and fans. another result of this being connected is the "check engine" light flashing the whole time. cars are delivered from the factory with it connected,a nd as poart of the pre-delivery inspection, it is dis-connected. lots of people, seeing a connector obviously disconnected, react by reaching up and connecting it, thus entering the test mode by accident. go check this connecter, and un-plug it...see if that solves your problems.

Also FYI the light will flash when an active misfire is detected, however if it remains flashing and does not stay on steadily there may not be any code stored.
