flame thrower
hey any of you guys know how to wire up a flame thrower for your impreza? I know it is resonably simple. All you need is a spark inside the end of your exaust. But how do u wire up a spark plug and get it to fire? is there another way to get the spark....how do u get a spark from 12v ? any info would be great thanx

a flamethrower?!? are you planning on melting/blowing up the car behind you? (Mr. Bond)... anyways, from what i've HEARD, and only what i've heard, (i've never done it/seen it done/and i dont know details), you can make flames shoot out your tailpipe like you see on old movies and stuff. basically what you do is disable a cylinder so that some fuel is left unburned and travels out to the exhaust. at the tip of the exhaust you can wire the sparkplug from the cylinder your not using to light up the extra fuel, thus creating the flames! now of course disabling a cylinder will leave you with a lot less power and should probably only be attempted in a V12 or V8 at the least. so sorry to say there's probably no simple way to give your Impreza a "flamethrower". besides im sure any kind of afterburner is illegal nowadays anyways. oh yeah, one more thing. if you were to attempt it (on an doable car) you would have to be sure to remove the catalytic converter or else the heat created by it would heat up the extra fuel and melt its insides. thats it. hope this helps!

oh btw, if im wrong with anything i said, feel free to correct me. im only going by what i've heard can be done...

i do not remember where i saw it...but i remember seeing a kit made specifically for this. it was a miny flame throwing kit that you hookedup to your exhaust. worse comes to worse it does not seem THAT hard to fabricate. good luck though, post some pics if you wind up doing it!

Saw a kit someplace
Im sure I thought I saw a kit in one of the "Tuner" Mag's I was browsing through at Barnes and Nobles (Or maybe it was Walden Books, I don't remember) course I don't remember which mag it was, might have been Import Tuner though......
Actually all I think it was, was a few line's an ignitor and a tank (propane?). In effect it's more of a blow torch then a flame thrower.

I did this trick on my 50 Chevy Pickup, It is really simple, just get a coil from an older style V8, run a plug wire from the coil to your sparkplug, then run a piece of wire to a switch on your dash, and then to the battery. Flip the switch, and get hard on the gas, this will make your car run rich and some unburnt fuel will reach that sparkplug, when it does, watch out, I shot 10 foot flames from the back of my truck. True I had a blown 327 in it, but that is besides the point....Be careful though, I have steel bumpers on my truck and they get pretty hot, try not to melt your bumper.
