Drove a WRX for the first time on Saturday
I'd rather get the 2.5i than the GC because..
1) If I can get a new one for free, i might as well go fro it
2) I am not really going to be doing any BIG modifications at all
3) I don't care too much if I don't break 200 horses, 173 is enough for me

Alright, we are going to go test drive the Impreza 2.5i tomorrow at a dealership that...you know, has them. I'll update everyone tomorrow.
Also, does anyone know if it has a different suspension than the WRX? If so, is it really that much different?

which is 1k less than a WRX...
another thing to consider.. .. assuming you get a turbo instead of the 2.5i
.. ALMOST ALL aftermarket parts are more expensive than your run-of-the-mill civic/toyota/nissan parts.. Sorta....
and you are gonna be in college soon. if you got the money, the WRX is your friend. if you dont.. go with soemthing you can handle/afford.

In general I don't think the WRX is a very impressive car in stock form(in america at least). It's a car that you almost need to mod for it to be fun, so I can't imagine a 2.5i to be that much fun.
The WRX I drove was fun.
So I test drove 3 cars today. The Impreza 2.5i, the civic EX, and the corolla S. My order of best to worst (including a scion tC I drove two weeks ago):
1) Impreza 2.5i
2) Corolla S
3) Scion tC
4) Civic EX
The Impreza 2.5i was awesome! I loved it! It had such great pickup (and handling), so had no problem getting up to 65 miles per hour (I usually drive 80 on it). It wasn't really that much of a down step from the WRX. I was afraid of the steering wheel not feeling good because it is vinyl, but it felt fine. In fact, it felt like my mom's leather steering wheel on her 2001 volvo s60.
The Corolla S was a big surprise. It also had good pickup. The handling was OK, but not as good (as was the speed). I thought it would drive a lot worse. The leather steering wheel actually surprised me (I can put that aside for the numerous other features of the impreza. Besides, that steering wheel felt fine).
The Scion tC was a huge disappointment. If you took the numbers, it seems like it would be around the same of the Impreza, but wow! The power was.....not so good. The handling was alright though. The interior was odd. Everything felt very distant. It really didn't drive like a "sports coupe" at all. The only thing that helped relieve its bad driving was thinking "Well, at least this car looks cool", but function > looks.
The Civic EX......yeah. I never liked it, but I gave it a chance because of gas prices (and my dad and many many many many others being obsessed with it). It's handling was alright, but it had no power. You step on the gas, and the engine has to roar before it even starts moving. Not to mention the interior didn't feel good. I know a lot of people love it, and it is a good car, but it is NOT my cup of tea.
I probably really screwed up my reviews (especially considering I didn't take the time to reread them, but whatever). The Impreza 2.5i was clearly the winner though. The only problem I have is that I need to convince my dad that it isn't 25 grand, it doesn't get 17-23 miles per gallon, and that it is very unsafe. Some guy ran into my bro's WRX at 30 miles per hour while my bro was sitting still, but the airbags didn't inflate. All of the force was absorbed in the car, and my bro's head didn't move 1 inch. The car didn't get to the sensors for hte airbag (or to the point to where the engine drops), but my dad doesn't understand what airbags are for and how the work, so he doesn't trust the safety ratings of the Impreza (He thinks they should have dropped, and almost wrote Subaru a letter for it. Yeah, he isn't the smartest guy around).

Yeah, looks like I'm getting a 2.5i Impreza. Only thing is, it will probably be 1-3 months before my parents get around to getting it. I really prefer to have it NOW, but I am still VERY grateful for getting a brand new car.

IIHS Highest Possible Crash-Test Ratings†
The 2006 Subaru Impreza has earned the highest rating in the recent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests. The 2006 Subaru Impreza received “GOOD” ratings in the frontal, side and rear-impact crash tests for both the driver and passenger seating positions. Based on this performance, the IIHS gave the 2006 Impreza the coveted “Top Safety Pick Gold” award calling it “a gold standard” among small cars.
The IIHS Top Safety Pick award recognizes car designs that afford the best protection for people in front, side and rear crashes. This award provides consumers with an overall vehicle assessment based on all three tests.
In its report, the IIHS highlighted the reinforced pillar behind the rear passenger door and standard side airbags of the 2006 Subaru Impreza. They also said the active head restraints “do a better job” than those in other small cars.
“We are so pleased that the 2006 Impreza has added the IIHS Top Safety Pick Gold award to the brand’s long list of safety accolades,” said Fred Adcock, executive vice president, Subaru of America, Inc. “Subaru provides customers with a fun-to-drive vehicle that sets the gold standard for safety at a tremendous value. That’s what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.”

Enjoy your car when you finally get it.
You're not doing your homework

Good on you for recognizing that. Make sure to tell your parents how grateful you feel for what they are doing. You can never replace family.

Thats also why he wouldn't let him look at convertibles or 2 seaters.
The other thing they don't like about it is the gas mileage. The thing is, I am going to be the one paying for gas....
I have told them that 50 times, but they act like I will burn up all $600 in my bank account in a week and will be asking them for gas money. Yes, I do not have a job, but I have turned in probably 12 applications in the past month or so.
