yeah dont pull the ebrake too much you will kill your center diff but it sure is cool when its wet the car comes around like wrc it looks cool
set up= huge sway bar in the back and disconnect the front.

I have Impreza and 240SX
I can certainly say that 240SX is far more fun and controllable to drift than Impreza.
Yea you can drift Impreza and I've done it but Impreza is just not suited for this type of driving.
I'd suggest get AE86 or 240SX if you are really into it.
I love Impreza on canyons and I love 240SX for drifting.
and yeah... you'll probably crash your car if you get into drifting (I did couple of times). You'll improve from every crash. lol.

Best places to practice are huge, wide-open parking lots with no concrete dividers.
Sigma Pi: That swaybar solution, what's it drive like? Is it just the ability to swing the rear out from sheer speed, or does throttle actually break the tail loose, like in a RWD car? Power oversteer owns.

Pretty strong opinion for F***EN IDIOT. I believe learning the skills of drifting makes you a better all around driver who will be able to save his car if he gets into trouble. There are many aspects to good driving, drifting is one of the smaller ones, but important none the less.

ah yes, the feint drift. i got very upclose and personal with that technique today during my AutoX runs. the bastards put about 5 sets of slaloms on the course.
first turn left then right...and oops... too much...whoops too much again. turn the other way...oh oh oh...damn. i lost it.
oh well i was one cone away from getting first place in DS out of about 5 cars. 47.057 + 2 second penalty for the cone.
oh yeah. if you want to drift, the stock tires are great for that. since they have very ****ty grip. just pump up the tire pressures a lot.

the most forgiving way to learn how to slide cars is on gravel, dirt, or snow. the loose surfaces make it easier to get the car sideways and if you do it out in the open i.e. empty ski resort parking lots, deserted gravel roads, mud bogs etc. the chances of getting hurt or damaging your car are a lot lower. you don't have to go as fast on loose surfaces as you do on pavement to get the same slip/slide angles. the techniques to getting a car sideways are the same no matter the surface, its just the speed and (for lack of a better description) the intensity that its done with.
i used to spend a whole lot of time in RWD and 4WD drive vehicles, and i learned most of what i know about going arround corners sideways from driving on loose surfaces, and on wet asphalt with bald tires. oh, and for Mr. JMRQ, the ability to slide cars has saved my rear on a couple of occasions. i'm all for people learning to slide/drift/whatever the hell you want to call it, because it ultimately makes them better drivers.

drifting is amazing, but i'm not too fond of how these sports become so mainstream then suddenly it is the "in" thing to do. quite frankly, i am sick and tired of seeing them on all the covers of import magazines, when a year ago they never were. then i see all these boys out there buying old 240s and corollas thinking they are driftmasters.
what's next? rally is gonna go mainstream? i hope not.
all i suggest is, clutch in when you pull your handbrake. you don't need to really in snow, just use weight transfer, it will save you the grief. but going around poles or what not, a handbrake will help the car kick around quite well. a tighter rear end will provide the oversteer.
don't do it too much in asphalt unless your sube is set up for drifting, or you will seriously damage your car.
go out there, try it. it is really impossible to write down "how to drift". it is in your own style and comfort that you will learn.

actually, it would be great if rally racing went mainstream. it already is throughout europe and most of the rest of the world. it'd be great to actually have an american driver competing in the WRC, and to have them hold an event in the US. i don't really see a downside to that.
