drifting
I have a rex with the vishnu stage 1 and JIC's and im not wanting to go out and kill myself, but am curious on how to drift properly. I have a lot of open space by my house with abandoned business parks and would like to learn how to do it the right way. Any pointers would help. thanks.

I don't want to discourage you. But you may want to get a different car first. It would make the learning curve a lot easier.
I have a 240 with a RB. I drift, I'm not great but I can do it. I think it really helps if you autoX first to learn car control. If you get go at that, drifting will be a lot easier.

I did my first drift today, going about 75 around a turn with 2 lanes of traffic coming towards me
. I felt the car start to slide around and then I realized I was drifting, and it was f*****n AWESOME. Have fun, but I would recommend practicing in a parking lot first so your not worried about everything around you.
Just my .02

hmm if its something you just want to try a couple of times then I would suggest getting a different car, its not worth beating up a decently new WRX. Even when I got my 240sx four or so years ago I practiced drifting on dirt roads first so maybe do the same with your WRX.

The two main ways to get the WRX sideways that work with any consistency are that (above link) and simply entering the corner too fast and coming off the throttle, this transfers weight to the front and away from the rear and causes the front to bite and the rear to drift out. You'll find out with practice that you can promote understeer or oversteer by modulating the throttle in turns. One thing to note though, countersteering isn't as vital as in a RWD car, you'll see that when the WRX drifts it's sort of a four wheel drift that with proper throttle modulation and minimal counter steering will kind of straighten itself. Search the internet, that site also has a description of heel and toe downshifting, learn that first, it's useful not just when trying to smoothly downshift in cornering but aslo when slowing for a light that may turn green soon....
