Don't swim with Keyless Entry!!!

I drove down to Santa Cruz today in my 2003 WRX so I could hit a couple of waves...the drive down there is nice! Highway 17 is a bunch a curves...nice lil drive. Problem is, when I got there and started surfing, I noticed that my keys were still in my pocket. I have gotten other keyless entry remotes wet so I thought it would be fine...so I just kept on surfing. DUMB F***ING MISTAKE! When I got back to the car it didn't work. I opened the door with the key and the alarm started going off. Holy s**t, u don't really notice how loud it is until it keeps going and going and going. It wouldn't start either. Finally, I unplugged the alarm under the E-brake and I got it. Everybody thought I was trying to steal the Suby. What have we learned? Don't get ur keyless entry remote wet!

There should be a cutout switch on the lower left part of the dash. For future reference, you hold that button while you turn the key to shut off the alarm.

I'm sorry, I gotta chuckle at that one... Cardinal rule - unless it's properly sealed, never get anything electronic wet.

I don't know if you have REI down there (or something like it) but I found these little waterproof wallets for keeping licenses and such dry - get one that's big enough to put your keys in and stick that in your pocket.

Alternatively, just lock your car without activating the alarm - ie with the key not the keyless - and only take the key with you into the water.

There, did I make amends for laughing?

post in the wanted area. I can tell you that the ones made for Canadian cars work for USA cars ... You have to follow the programming in the owners manual though!!

Oh I do dumb stuff all the time - another reason I had to chuckle - I just don't usually post it on boards... instead, I tell my real life friends about it and they all laugh at me.
