I think people with the Sti still in the love phase for the car.
Do what you like, if you can afford to get the newer model go ahead.
I would like to suggest, sell the Rex yourself and then use the money toward the Sti.

oh thats what i plan on doing...gonna sell the wrx and buy an sti, but wanted some input first...didnt know if anyone that bought one didnt like it or something like that...heard the gearing in the 07 sti is different too...also looking at legacys the gt and the spec b...really torn between raw power and luxury...oh i think the main thing i want to know is any of the sti not as good as another one? like the 04 sucks cause no radio and the 07 sucks cause of the gearing being different...stuff like that

It is quite a step up from a wrx...But most importantly is "personal Preferance." I can't stand the way the 06+ front ends look nor do I like the blue interior. So I would personally make the sacrafice and get a used yet newer 05 sti.

If you do end up going with a new 06+ model. Please follow the proper break in for at least the first 10-15k miles. Please Please do this. Dont drive it like you stole it. Unless you want your brand new subee smokin on ya.

So if your down for the new body style, love the little extra power and thik you can afford it, than by all means do. Engine power / suspension performance hasn't changed greatly.

But its all about how you feel driving it, and if you really want to spend almost $6-10k more on something that you can get from your wrx with the same amount maybe less money.

Best of luck to ya. Be sure to post some pics of whatever you end up doing.

Cheers.
Adam

i went from an 04 WRX to an 07 WRX (non-sti) and the difference is big. The 2.5 has so much more torque. I personally like the new front end and i like the addition of the roof spoiler on the STi. You would also ge the Brembos and the six-speed. I think the only thing you would really need to consider between an 04/05 and 06+ is the price and front end. You could build your 2.0 up to STi specs but it wouldnt be the same.

I agree.

I liked the WRX, but loved the STI. We got the STI because it was worth the extra money to me. I'm not sure the Limited is worth it to me cause I wouldn't want the leather anyways.

My complaints with the STI:
The huge wing slightly blocks the rearward view.
The gearbox is notchy, especially when cold.
I burns/leaks oil. I've checked the filter and there seems to be no oil leak, but I always smell a burning oil smell.
The gearing is really close in 1 to 4, but from 4 to 5 is a big jump.

The power and grip outweigh the negatives for me.

Previous '04 WRX owner, now own '07 Sti. This is not a big difference, it is a huge difference. Not sure if you are stating the 07 gears suck or if you were using it as an example, they don't suck. The car feels very good. Downside, the 07 hesitation problem for now unless you get it tuned or SOA gets an update for the ECU. I see others state thier 07 car is undrivable with the hesitation. <-- Way over exageration and I don't buy it for a second. The hesitation can be annoying at times but it certainly has good power on boost. If you want power, stay in boost, duh.

Oh, and new heads and turbo. Regardless of what Drive magazine said about "the Lower Arms changed to steel on the STi", this is not true even though it is a SOA publication. The 07 STis lower arms are aluminum.
