CA Tailpipe Smog readings with catless exhaust

Used the Bar97 Smog machine in the shop and did a pre test on my aero. Basically just a real smog but without sending it to Bureau of Automotive Repair. Surprisingly our engines burn pretty damn clean without any help from the Cats.

Of course the visual inspection failed but lets ignore that.

I did a two speed idle test which is required in the state of California for non-disengeable AWD.

Saab-aru 9-2x (05 WRX)
HKS Up-pipe, HKS Downpipe

IDLE:
-RPM:723

-CO2%: 13.4

-O2%: .9

-HC_MAX=100 ppm
Measured: 249 ppm (FAIL)

-CO_MAX=1.00%
Measured:.56% (PASS)

2500 RPM:

-RPM:2326

-CO2%: 13.80

-O2%: .4

-HC_MAX=130 ppm
Measured: 63 ppm (PASS)

-CO_MAX=1.00%
Measured:.51% (PASS)

So if anyone is wondering why it would pass at 2500 rpm and not at idle is because engines don't like to idle. That is why we have things like Idle Air Control Valves. When you give it some gas the engine is not bogging and actually runs more efficiently with incoming air.

That is kinda cool to know. With my catless dp, I'm not polluting AS much as I thought. Haha

Well you do have an sti and I'm sure it doesn't run as clean as our economical everyday driver WRX's, heh

I also failed to mention that when I snap the throttle HC skyrockets past 2000 ppm and CO goes up to 2-3%

Definitely will not pass visuals and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it any lower at idle. I tried to slowly let off from 2500 RPM and even try to hold it at 1000 rpm right at the max. Didn't work lowest I could get to was around 180 PPM.
