I just adopted a 02 wrx from a mate that went back to aussie..
heres the deal. I have been driving the car for about 8 months
in the past month or so I have been having some problems with it.
1. when I start it cold, starts fine. when the car is warmed up, the idle bounces around and will sometimes stall. after a few minutes of that she runs fine.
2. at full throttle, or sometimes close to open, the boost fluctuates, I know it does a little but this is somewhat extreme, I can feel it while driving.
3. My mate left me some perrin springs, but said I would need to get some camber bolts before I could put them on, where do I get these, I have looked all over and cant find them.
the stuff that he put on car is
turbo XS BOV, the really loud one
dual stage boost control
perrin down pipe
turbo timer
cold air intake, the one that runs down into the front fender.
any help on any of these things is greatly appreciated
thanks

The first and second issues could easily be attribuited to either the BOV the Boost Controller or both. I'd remove them if I were you.
Anyways, welcome to the boards. Congrats on the car.

Better is a relative term with BOVs. Aftermarket ones are pretty much unnecessary powerwise. 100% Atmospheric BOVs can even be bad for your engine and is usually the cause of rough idles. 100% recirculation BOVs won't help you much over the stock BOV until you start putting more power through. You can get 50/50 ones and they are usually a good compromise. You still get the "whoosh" sound and it really shouldn't hurt your car.
I'd put the stock one back on, but if you can't get a stock one, I'd look at a 100% recirculation or a 50/50 if you like the blow off sound.

yes, that bov will give you the dreaded bouncing idle....(txs RFL bov)
hearing a high pitch noise while on boost? check the bolts on the flange of the bov (the one that connects it to the tmic). tighten them, the bov might be leaking boost. also, check the bov gasket if its cracked/damaged and replace.
cant really say which bov is "better" ....depends on what your asking: coolest/loudest sound? holds more psi? cheapest? easiest to adjust? 50/50 or 100% atmos? this topic is highly debatable and it has been debated many times before. (do a search)
i personaly run the txs RFL bov. the one you currently have (the one eveyone says is a POS) i love the sound. i've trained myself how to drive with it on. (dealing with the rpm drop, etc.) i've also tried the HKS ss bov (no rpm drop) but, i hated the sound it made... it's totally up to you. ...good luck

I checked the gasket and i think im going to replace it. looks a little crusty. I think I might get a new BOV though, the inside of mine has some grooves in it. Looks like it got dirty.
If I put the perrin springs on, do I just need to replace camber bolts? I will replace shock eventually but I dont have the money right now. Probably will in a couple of months.
so the atmospheric BOV isnt bad for the engine?
