Just checked out that site that has the STI exaust...
Here is what it says:

"$852.49
Improves vehicle performance and provides a throaty exhaust note plus a sporty aggressive look to the rear of the WRX. Sounds very respectful at idle. This T304 stainless steel muffler with an inlet (inner) diameter of 60mm, the outlet tip diameter 101.25mm. Unfortunately, this is NOT a "Cat Back" system. Also despite lacking the STI etching this IS the STI muffler! Includes gasket."

What is Cat Back? And why do they say unfortunately? Also is that expensive for an exaust pipe... to me I think that's WAY too much.. the dealer wrote down on the paper $989 for that exaust that is already on an WRX that I was looking at.. It looks to me that it was a dealer installed option but he is adding the price ontop of the sticker price even though it's on the sticker side on the right side...? Good, bad, comments?

Thanks,
-Nigel

sti muffler...

basically, all you're buying from subaru is an Axle-back (a muffler with a little bit of piping). a catback exhaust leads from the catalytic converter back to the muffler (hence catback)....only thing you get for your $800+ is a warranty thats not voided...

warranty...

the warranty on your car....you know how void-happy subaru is when it comes to aftermarket parts. that's what i was saying, your car's warranty.

Then in therory it should be better to get an exaust system that goes from the catalytic converter for performance stand point right?
Here is a question though. Where I am at in PA we have emmisions... My friend was able to take off his catalytic converter because he does not have emmisions but if I do anything to that car that I get as far as that goes I won't pass... Headers are also a thing that might make it fail... in this case what do you do? Has anyone ever been in the same situation?

Thanks,
-Nigel

emissions...

from my understanding emissions in texas (and most likely, everywhere besides california) if your car is 96+ (OBDII) they dont dyno it, sniff it or anything, they just plug up a code reader and make sure it doesnt throw any codes, or hasnt within its memory on the ECU...so if your exhaust doesnt give you a code (it shouldnt) then you should be okay...or get that $20 CEL Fix.
