Manual.
It's quicker. More control--going fast, stopping, in slippery conditions. Engine braking. Slightly better mileage (who am I kidding, do we care about that 1mpg at this point?).
As for the old stop-and-go-traffic argument. My previous Legacy wagon was a stick. My WRX wagon is a stick. They are easy to row in stop-and-go. Or, if you prefer, just leave the WRX in first; it's geared tall (too much so in the higher gears).
