Auto
Okay so i dont own a Impresa yet, Unfortuantly i cant afford a WRX, but I did find a 2000 R.S 2.5 for sale, but and here the catch...its a automatic, now trust me i much rather prefer the Manuel trany, but Impresa R.S 2.5 are extremly hard to find in Utah( I know anthor problem hehe) but what do you think, Is the Automatic just as good, or is it junk, I need some help. give me all your opions you have, like i said, these are very rare cars in utah, so this is like a good chance to get one. and its very clean. but like i said i need a good opion on the stats of the auto vs. the manuel. thanx
first off, i drive an auto wrx.
aside from being able to launch at whatever rpm you want, the manual isnt going to give you a HUGE performance edge. sure, one can make the argument in auto-x that the manual lets u keep up rpms it turns and whatnot, but its all down to the driver. ive read of auto-x teachers who use e36(last gens right?) m3s for class and say the auto wrx outperforms.
i cant attest for the manual rs, ask brucelee. but the difference between the wrx and the rs, is that the naturally aspirated rs has more torque downlow, so i would think the gap in performance would lessen even more.

Aside from performance. A manual tranny is just more fun IMO. An automatic taked away form the sportiness and thrill of driving a sporty car. Personally, I would wait to find a manual, especially because you wanted one in the first place, or you'll regret it in the future.

Okay so. i think im gonna try to wait(even though i dont want to and go for the manuel) its a really nice car. but ive been driving manuels ever since i have owned and car and yes they are much more fun...thanx everyone...if you have anymore interesting facts about the RS let me know....
if you ever want to go turbo... you might want to consider pre 2000 rs. post 2000 including 2000 has 10:1 compression ratio. BUT 00 and 01 are the only rs i know of have rear LSD.... but i think swaping punkin and axles are easier than doing engine internal.... something to consider...
and and they are SOHC...

My WRX is manual and i lve it that way, but my Legacy isnt and i also like it that way. especialy if I'm in traffic there is pros and cons of both. The WRX is sporty so the manual seems right. The legacyon the otherhand is my family car so its easier not to have to worry about the shifting.
A good auto trannie can perfom close to a manual and technicaly can also hold a boost better if you go turbo because of the quicker shifting. Its also easier to eat and drive in an automatic.
But then there is also just the feeling of control in a manual.
That could be argued all day I guess, hell i could argue with myself all day about it.
Drive it and if you like it get it but if you feel like somethings missing hold out for a manual

I know how looking for an RS's can be.. I've been searching for a year and have finally found the one I want (4 Door/MT/BRP) If you really want it.. JUST get it... use the auto shifter like a manny, start with gear 1, up it to 2 etc. But if you really want a MT, just wait. Good things come to those who wait.. I'm living proof.

with auto, no double clutch, heel-toe, lock into gear (unless mod), heavier, expensive when it breaks.
BUT you also DON'T have to worry about those for regular driving with an auto.

i have an auto. i wanted a manual, but im happy with what i have. the auto is still a blast to drive. if the auto rs's are anything like the outbacks, then they are plenty torquey. it feels much more torquer than my auto wrx.
the auto tranny seems to be sterdier than the manuals for now. i always hear about how people's glass tranny. but right now all the 02 auto trannys and some of the 03's are being recalled. but other than that the auto tranny is just as good.

but it's personal preference...
