about used wrx's

i understand that buying a used wrx is quite risky cuz of the possibility that the previous owner beat on it pretty bad, which is especially not good for the weak transmission that the car is known for. but couldn't you have a technician or whoever check up on the car for signs of abuse on the transmission/engine? or can you not tell at all?

cuz from what i read on this forum you guys advise that we steer clear and far away from used wrx's. i'm asking this cuz i don't think i can get a wrx new.

I think, if you really want a wrx as bad as i do, that if you can't get a new wrx you have to settle for used. Hopefullly it has low mileage and maybe someone who is respected on this forum. Because you know that they love their cars to much to abuse them.

The transmission is not really weak, its the person behind the wheel. Whenever you buy a used car, Subaru, Ford, Kia or whatever, you take the risk that the previous owner abused the vehicle! This could include anything from revving the engine to not changing the oil. Its the risk you take to save some money over a new car.

Car Info: currently own a modded 97' maxima. in the process of owning a modded 2k2 wrx

hmmmmm... i am also in the market for a used 2k2 wrx. i want to pick one up after winter, early -mid spring. i have heard about weak clutches and transmissions, but i did not know it was this serious. should i reconsider getting a wrx? i cant afford new

what (not so expensive)mods can you do to strengthen the manual trans in a wrx? i know for autos there are valve bodie upgrandes. is all there is for manual like clutches, and flywheels, etc...
