22b history... with questions
found this while looking into the possiblity of a body swap
http://22b.com/22bstory.htm
very good write up (if the author may be reading).
I admit I was only intrested in the 22b initially because I would like to give my car the "hips" and "sholders" look of the 22b.
but this cought my attention.
"The engine was bored out to 2.2 litres, retaining the same stroke as the stock 2.0 litre engine."
so does that mean I can save some money buy finding a High milage 2.0 block and get it 'punched out'? Or does it require re-sleeving?
Be a good little project for all you wrx guys that have a tired 2.0.... in a fiew years that is, you know when they start to get old.
this intrigued me
"The brakes fitted were the standard Subaru 4 pot calipers with 292mm discs on the front and a new rear 2 pot caliper with larger vented disc on the rear."
wich It has been mentioned many times before as a brake upgrade
but this grabbed my attention.
"Transmission is via the same gearbox as the STI IV type R, incorporating the driver adjustable viscous centre differential"
I want one!!!!!!
has any one looked into getting there hands on this transmission before?
I know there are a fiew company's making diffrent center diffs, but do any of them offer such an adustibility?
Is it 'on the fly'?
is it pre-set 'select between 3 stages' type thing? or is it infinatly adjustible?

That's a cool write up. I don't understand your question about the transmission though...you know that the USDM STi comes with a DCCD (driver controlled center differential) too right? It's a more modern version that uses electronic clutch type things that should outperform the viscous coupled DCCD in the 22B. It's not infinitely adjustable, but it's a dial though and can go from 50/50 to 35/65 F/R I beleive...I'm not sure about that range though. A lot better than the 3 position deal they have in the Evos.

I saw the DCCD transmissions on ebay but It said that it tied into abs system.. so I assumed that it was computer controled.
Wonder if the sti diff will fit in the rs case... and if the rest of the bits can be adapted... seeing how as the sti trannies are still at least $1k, then the rear diff, and all the other bits...
