1998 Impreza 2.5 RS
I just bought this car recently and I am wondering what a good first performance modification would be. Price doesn't matter too much - I just want to get some suggestions as to what people would recommend.

Yeah, he means swap the engine with a 02 WRX one.
Uhh... thats probably a little extreme for a first mod...
Go with an STi engine instead.

So I guess by your suggestions, it is not really worth modifying my current engine. I should only start doing modifications once I get a better engine to start from. Is that right?

They're just saying that an old Impreas w/ a turbo engine makes a sweet ride. If you don't wan't to swap engines now, I would suggest working on handling. This department is where the RS really shines. First thing is tires (if it still has the RE92s), then a larger rear swaybar (18 - 22mm depending on where you're going with the modifications), then I would say work on the suspension - fully adjustable coilovers if you're racing it or a decent strut/spring kit (i.e. Prodrive or similar) if you're commuting in it. An exhaust makes it sound nice (I suggest Strommong dual tip). Hope that helps.

OK, Well eventually I would like to do the engine thing, but in the mean time what mods could I do now - that I won't have to replace down the road when I swap the engine?
Are the one's he suggested above good?
