Thanks for the heads up, WW. I didn't know that a new SAE standard was in effect.

We still don't know that SOA is actually using the new standard, or if they are intentionally underrating the engine in the WRX. I don't mind if they underrate their engines because it is something that insurance companies look at.

Actually, all STI's from my06 are 2.5. I couldn't check the Japanese site to verify 04-05 engines, but I do know that for 06 they decided to use the 2.5.

That is not correct. The STI's in Japan are 2.0L for 2006... just like before. Specs are just below the image of the 2006 STI:

http://www.subaru.co.jp/impreza/wrx/.../01/index.html

There will always be a 2.0 STI in Japan untill the FIA changes the homologation requirements for WRC.

I apologize for the misinformation. Since I can't read Japanese, I assumed that the STIs in Japan had the same engine size as the EDM models - go to this page, http://subaru.de/showroom/impreza/im...sti-color.htm# and then click on this link in the lower left of the screen: PKW-EnVKV

It shows that all the 06 engines in the Impreza line are 2.5 just like in the U.S.

Here's the link to the UK model: http://www.subaru.co.uk/IMGGB/WWW/Su...4?Opendocument

And Australia:
http://subaru.com.au/explore/Impreza...fications.asp?
body=Sedan&grade=WRX+STi

Basically, worldwide the Impreza line now carries a 2.5L engine. I simply assumed that it would hold true for Japan as well.
