04 WRX...different paint issue
I was washing and waxing my car this weekend and when I got low down and looked at the paint on the bottom of the doors...just about the skirts.....it's in very bad shape.
It appears that it's pooled up....too much paint or something....one side has verry bad pooling/bubbling and the other just a few spots....I also found one of these on my front bumper.
I was wondering if anyone with an 04 wrx or any other new Subaru has notices this and what they did about it. It just seems that when you pay good money for a brand new car the paint should be perfect.
If anyone is gonna be at UCKK tomorrow I'd like it if you looked at it and let me know what you think...I'll bring a flash light..
My plans as of now are to bring it up to my service manager and the sales person. See what they say but I am not sure what to ask for...my parents said I should make them replace my car....or at the very least paint it. I am all for the painting because this is just rediculous...SOA needs to start taking some pride in the appearence and long term appearance of their vehicles or they are going to get a very bad reputation that eventually will catch up to them....
Please let me know your experience and what you have done.
I know people have complained about the thin paint and low quality but I haven't seen anything about this problem yet....
I am pretty sure it's called orange pealing.
ON a side note...when I was washing it I found like 3/4 yellow stains from polin in flowers I think and a bunch of spreckles that wouldn't come out of the paint.....do you think a clay bar would do the trick on that?

and your not talking about the texture they do on the bottom of some cars to help protect from rock chips. I dont know if they do this on the WRX as I dont have one.

no....this is a clear paint defect...not a texture. It's not on the side skirts...it's on the doors.
It's worse on one side than it is on the other....and as I said I found a spot on a different part of the body.
It appears to me that the computer controlled sprayers stalled at that part of the car too long and the paint pooled up.

never had one before...>I had an 88 Ford Ranger until 98 and the paint looked as good as the day it came of the showroom floor...sept for some scratches of course. And my 97 civic...same deal....paint was smooth as can be.
Us californians just have to take good care of our paint....and I am **** as can be.
I washed both my civic and my ranger twice a week and waxed every couple months. With my wrx I wash once a week...I'm busier now...and will probably strip and wax every 6-10 weeks.....

I did that at a stereo shop...eheeemm.....pacific stereo...
cost them about 10k in stereo work that day....owner got really pissed and gave me a digital cap to just leave. .....bastards.
but I wouldn't do that to my subaru reps...they have been really good to me and been very helpful......I'd do it if I have too but surely not my first time in for this.

something like that probably shouldn't have made it past the inspection when you bought the car. I dunno, but personally I think the dealership should cover that under some kind of warranty. I know here in canada a defect like that could lead to weird ways of rust forming later on.
Take some photos of it and post em up here for all to see.

I'll try to take some with the digital tonight...might need to wash it again though and it will be dark...take em in the morning maybe......I just got back from a weekend road trip. Dirty.
Yeah...I should have caught it when I picked it up...but when you buy a brand new car you just don't think of looking for stuff like that...I looked it over for about an hour before I left with it and I didn't see it....

then why isn't it the same on both sides?
Chip protection? Never heard anything like that...any resources for that I could read into?
You'd think if that is what it is for then the dealership would say something or that all the cars would have it....and from what I have seen they don't?

my MY02 sedan has it at the bottom of the doors
I read that its for rust protection heavier paint for salt and rock dings etc. My car has it too. So if some do and some dont then there goes there idea of protection theory. From what i understand all wrx should have it at the bottom of the door.

I'll take a look see tonight at the 04's I see.
It is just ugly though man...looks like someone got lazy on the clear coat trigger.....you know.
Anyone have some for sure stuff I could read? That way I don't look like a dick and bother my dealership....they have been very good to me.

My white 04 has that as well. I thought it was for the lower chip/paint protection from rocks flung from the wheels.
Mine is uniform though I think. hrm, now i might have to check.. haha.
I washed and waxed my car the day i bought it and I noticed that but I didnt notice that it was different on both sides. it look intentional to me so I was like "alright"
I'm having other issues with my car though so the paint quality is on the backburner with my car.
