Car Info: Was Patiently Waiting STI
Well,
Just returned from the maiden voyage of the Donttryme BlueSTi.
There are just too many good things to say about the car.
The personal negatives for me:
-My schedule would only allow me to pickup the car today
-For 80 miles it rained and rained and rained!
-Car is dirty, really dirty?!?
-No radio made the mind wander
-Having to try and keep the "beast" below 4k rpm was a real challenge as I use engine braking in my other manual car and sub conciously keep downshifting.
- No floormats
-Boost gauge or differential temp gauges
-Trying to vary speed with so many troopers on the road was tough!
-As previously mentioned in another thread Gotta do something about the gas cap!
Note to others who buy out of state:
If your state does not require a front license plate BE sure to tell them NOT to screw the dealer plate holder into the front fascia!!!!!!
The positives:
-The car fits me well.
-Short throw shifter has extremely positive engagements. Found myself doing 1-2-4-6 shifts frequently.
More later

you dont have to keep it below 4000 RPM. In fact, occasional runs to redline help seat the rings. Dont beat on it mercilessely, but make sure you run it through the gears at least once every time, or every couple times you take it out.

Thanks for the info.....but when I pulled the license plate or in this case dealer nameplate with retainer off, the holes were 1" inside of the pre-drilled holes! Right into the molded flat surface of the fascia. My state doesn't require a front plate, so I"ll be requesting or obtaining a repair to that area to make ME feel better! (small item compared to all of the great things I'm discovering).
Sorry also for the somewhat criptic entries since I've been back my doorbell has rang 3 times from all the "gearheads" trying to find out whose car is in my yard and can they drive it!!!!!!!
Donttryme "6 hour owner of a Blue/gold STi"
Congrats on your car. I am glad you finaly got it. I picked mine up on Wednesday from just east of Cincy, Ohio. I drove for 5 1/2 hours home with it on a trailer. It rained for the last 2 hours of the trip. I had a car cover on it but it was soaked through. I haven't yet read your thread about the gas cap, can you give me a little info about it?
Enjoy it.
Jim

My brother just got stopped in San Francisco in his WRX for not having a front license plate. The reason the officer gave him was the "Red Light Bit." He also recieved a fine!

When I lived in Corvallis Oregon there was wide speculation based on police behavior that quotas for drunk driving were being used. So the local police would use any excuse under the sun to pull people over, mostly so they could check for driving under the influence. The car I had at the time had been bought (used) out of state and had tinted windows, so I got stopped a lot, each time being told that my tint was too dark. They never even wrote up a warning for the tint -- they'd just use that as the first line: "Do you know why I pulled you over?" Then they'd launch into the big thing about how maybe my eyes looked a bit redder than they thought was normal (sorry officer, staring at a computer monitor for 12 hours will do that), or maybe there was a strange smell from my car (huh? At the time I didn't even know what pot smelled like, and my car was clean, thank you). Was I doing drugs? Did I have anything to drink earlier? And so on. It was all a tactic for pulling people over on the chance that someone would be drunk and would show it enough for them to use the breathalyzer. I imagine they're out there today looking for people with missing front plates as a good excuse for pulling them over.
On the other hand, other than the pestering questions, they never actually fined or ticketed me, and obviously I don't want drunk drivers on our roads.

But I was able to drive around for well over a year without one before getting pulled over...
