Who's waiting until 2006?
I'm aware the STI is coming to the U.S. this summer, and it will be the next 4-banger to take the title away from the EVO as the best in it's class. Well ever since the facelift on the Impreza, I've been kind of sceptical about buying the new STI. I've heard from many, even this sight, that the 2006 Impreza will be redesigned in 2005, which isn't too far away. I just bought a 2003 RSX Type-S for the simple fact that it's good on fuel, and it's a good starter for a sports car. But my next car will be AWD, and turbocharged, more than likely a Subaru. The new Legacy B4 is also on my wish list. I know it's too soon to tell, but what is everyone else thinking about doing? Getting a new 2004 STI, or waiting to see what happens in the next year or two? I think I'm gonna wait due to the simple fact that the Impreza redesign is right around the corner, and I'm feeling pretty good about it's redesign.

Like I said it's too soon to tell. The new B11S concept will give you a some what idea. And the new Subaru Auto designer holds a great reputation, so I'm feeling good about the future for Subaru. And the EVO and STI are constantly having a competion title bout for the best all around rally car. A lot can change between now and 2005. Keep your fingers crossed.

Well, first off... The B11S isn't going to replace the Impreza, it will most likely be a new line, or a replacment for the high end legacy market (to compete with BMW, Lexus, etc).
Second, they aren't going to redesign the new facelifted Impreza any time soon, since this is the first year they are making them. You have to face it, cars change over time, there isn't anything you can do about it.

Oh I know the B11S is a new car, most certainly NOT an Impreza. I wouldn't think the B11S is going to be in the Legacy category, that's what the B4 is in place of. And it's been reported that there will be a redesign in 06. Some Autos go through minor alterations in the middle of their generations, like the Celica, Exterra, last gen. Maxima, ect. And nothing on the Impreza has changed except for the fascia. Soo, the car went two years with one look, then it will carry a few more years with it's facelift until the redesign, maybe it will hold off till 07, who knows. I just see no point in getting the STI, then two years later, a totally redesigned STI is released, that's why I'm waiting.

A similar "Debate" came up somewhere else (not sure if it was here or at Nasioc) but as stated in that thread, There Is Always "Something Better" around the corner or to be released in the next couple of years! If you like what's out now (or out in the next couple of month's as the case may be) and can afford it, buy it! Then worry about "down the road"!

You have a good point. I just think buying the STI this year might not be a good idea. I'm just into the latest thing that comes out, that way I'll have 4-6 years to enjoy my car before the next best thing comes out, I just love Subaru technologyy. And you know technology and numbers are bound to change by the time they release the redesigned STI. Maybe WRC will start using V6s in their cars, but very doubtful. Just a theory.

Seriously though, the redisgn was driven mainly by the rally team, with heavy input from all the complaints about how "bad" the 02 looked. It grows on you, but I think the new front end is nicer.
Anyhow, like Rotorflyr said, there is always something better that is bound to come out down the road and if you keep thinking of it that way you'll never by a car. I thought that way with the RS, and with the WRX. In that case I'm glad I waited because I knew they sold better cars in Japan. Now we've got the best you can get anywhere in the world. That said its time to throw out the idea of there is always something better down the road.
