It seems that younger kids always know about the car. They come down the street on their bikes and exclaim, "WRX STI!" Then tell me, "Nice car man."
One day I went to home depot and parked far away from everyone(general rule for new cars). When I came back there are two kids sitting on the grass eating lunch by my car and admiring it. I just had to laugh.
I then played my friend's grand turismo and figured that they know the cars from the game?
As far as adults, they usually thing the wing, scoop, and wheels are aftermarket. They give me that look, "What is that guy doing with that car." Maybe they think a kid should be driving it.
It makes me happy and that's all I care about. I don't care what other people think. Well that's what my fifth grade teacher Miss Epstein told me.

I always hear "Nice car,man!"
And always get people drivin by givin thumbs up and noddin their heads. Some even take pictures.
The best was last night. I was takin my friend to go pay his phone bill. We got out and these two younger girls(very hot by the way) walked by. As we passed them I heard one of them droolin over a car. I turn around and she was scopin out my STi. She loved it but her friend was an import hate, an ignorant one at that. She said that there is no way that my car runs low 13's stock or had a 0-60 time of 4.5. Then she was talkin about her car but i was laughin too much to hear what kind it was but she was sure she could take me, but she wasnt drivin it at the time. As we walked away my friend told me that it was a mustang gt the she drove. HA!. I laughed about that the rest of the night.

Im in LA...SoCal and since getting my STI (I was on a waiting list for over 6 months and got mine from the first shipment to arrive at Santa Monica Subaru) I've been bombarded with all kinds of comments...mostly positive.
I've had almost a dozen instances where people have followed me....one guy for over 5 miles....just to talk to me about the STI or pull up next to me (when I arrive at my destination) to ask questions and bestow compliments. They ask me to pop the hood, take a look inside the cabin, ask questions, and....if they were a WRX owner, to share and show off their ride's various mods.
Out of all the attention my black sti's gotten, I can easily narrow it down to a top four:
1) The second time out driving to the ATM (actually, after driving the car back from the dealer the first day, my STI managed to scare the **** out of me because it was so damn fast! My 2 previous rides since I was 17 (I'm 32 now) were both slow-*** MBZ diesels so the STI actually sat in my garage for 4 days until I got up the nerve for my second ride! lol....plus, to top it off....I'd only driven stick on several occassions so this was my manual transmission learner car! lmao) I was doing my biz and waiting for cash to dispense when 2 guys in a heavily modded supra literally stopped dead in the flow of traffic and the driver yells at the top of his lungs.. "NICE ****IN CAR MAN!!!" to which I busted up and replied "Thanks man!"
2) About a month ago, a very good, close friend, who was only 36, died of a massive heart attack while riding with a bunch of his motorcycle buddies. After a week of being completely devastated and crying my *** off, I was driving to his memorial service. On the last stretch of fwy....some 5 miles... I found myself in Subie Land with 6 different Subie drivers (some in 2.5rs, some in wrx's...all modded to some degree) pulling up next to me, giving thumbs up, smiling, and yelling compliments while in slow 20mpg traffic. This totally lifted my spirits and was really kinda significant and fitting as my friend who had just passed away was responsible for introducing me to the WRX through his ride, Subaru cars in general, rally racing/cars, and the coming of the STI.
3) While driving in slow SoCal traffic at about 10mpg, a young Asian 2.5 Subie driver in the lane to my right, saw me coming up in his rear-view and literally jumped half-way out of his window raising his arm in the air, giving me his enthusiastic "thumbs-up". It was so dramatic and looked so funny that I nearly pissed my pants laughing while he almost caused an accident by drifting across one lane of traffic. lol
4) Lastly, and this is great cuz it totally put those "old parent folk types" in their place! After waiting in cue in a well-to-do parking lot of a grocery store in Brentwood (yes of OJ Simpson fame) and getting obvious glares and stares from a old couple behind me in their Lexus, we both wound up parking almost next to each other. The older gentlemen, along with his wife....both about 65 maybe....walk right up to me and the man says, with a big grin on his face...
"You know, that's quite a wild wing on your trunk! Our young 17 year old grandson is begging us to give him money for his birthday so he can do that crazy stuff to his car and my wife and I think its crazy! I dont mean any disrespect but you are obviously not a kid and we see you dont have your license plates so the car is obviously new. So, we're wondering why would you do that to your car? I mean arent you worried about obstructing your view out the back of the car of ruining the value of your car?"
So....with a big grin on my face I chuckled (it never ceases to amaze me how forward and just plain honest spoken older people can be sometimes...especially in LA where people shoot each other over nothing) and answered...
"Sir, everything you see on this car... from the hood scoop, the performance wheels, the large wing, etc, comes standard on the car and has a purpose. Nothing has been added to the car since I bought it besides my floormats. For example the wing is there to keep the back end of the car firmly planted to the road and increase stability at high speeds." and...blah blah blah we got into a 20 minute conversation about the car, the import scene, and their grandson's obsession with the import car modding scene
Finally....! I was able to put at least two of these hyper-critical, and narrow-minded, older folks in their place by calmly, and in a very friendly manner, answering their questions and offering my opinions. Turns out that by the end of the conversation they kinda made a 180 and realized that their grandson's hobby was healthy and a **** load better than doing dirt, drugs, and becoming a general menace to soceity without any positive outlet to expell his energy on. Kinda cool huh?
Damn....lol....that was a long *** reply!

It's long but a pretty good one
.
Beside the usual cool car comments, questions about how it performs and stuff, a lot of ppl requested to sit in my car and couple of them are pretty cute girls, too
. One girl actually used my car's engine bay as bum fire cause it was cold in the mountains
and a highschool kid said it will be his highest point of life if I give him a ride, I was like..... you're just too young dude....

In santa cruz, i get plenty of wierd comments, one of which was: "that looks like a pink rollerskate." i had no idea what the guy was talking about, but i was inside eating and the car was right outside the window where i was sitting.
I've gotten: "what are those things on your mirrors?" (piggies)
and i get a bunch of stares from the people on campus.
Lastly, a middle aged man riding on his bike with some friends looked at me and raised 3 fingers. I was kinda confused then i pulled into the street and caught up to him at the light, and he said "300?"
"300?"
"hp/torque!"
"oh, yea!"
*thumbs up*

I ever had. Then she got up swallowed and calmly said, nice ride, and took off. Funny thing, its just a bad *** wrx, not even the STI.
