I have an injen and am quite happy with it. My butt dyno felt a power increase, and the turbo is MUCH louder now. The turbo sound and full throttle growl alone is definitely worth the money IMO.
Well, in my reading of intakes on scoobies. The conclusion is that it will increase topend horse, but it lowers a little bit of torque, just dump an K&N filter on your stock intake, and you'll gain like 2hp.
I've got the AEM CAI. I've had in on my 02 WRX for about 10 months now, and I really like it. There are all kinds of opinions flying around about intakes on WRX's and what-not. All I know is that I felt a difference and that's all that matters. People will say that it will make you run lean, but only for a little while. Once the ECU adjusts you're fine. Anyway, I like the AEM and I'm stiking with it.
Also, I have the Borla Cat-Back exhaust. I like it a lot and it really makes a mean growl from the boxer.
AEM and Borla, made in America! Can't go wrong!

I'd have to agree with the general consensus, but if you need a cone filter, A'PEXi seems to be the best bet...

go on Ebay and look up "WRX intake" i found a ton for $30- $40 that go down in your fender well. In my opinion you won't notice any difference between the cheap one and an AEM or Injen and you will save a couple hundred bucks. With the intake I put on you can hear the turbo and BOV but you will find little to no gain.

ok... im gonna say a brief counterpoint to the whole CAI thing... so please flame away as this is me playing devils advocate...
the general consensus seems to be that CAI lean out the AF mixture, i dont think this will be disputed =) but correct me if I am wrong
this leaning out of AF/r when combined with cranking up the boost (which technically leans out the AF/r as well) is what leads to disasturous(sp) results...
if one were to say, not touch the boost and throw on a CAI the amount "leaned" out of the AFR shouldnt be so bad to cause problems....
I believe CAI are designed to have bigger tube, are purposely designed to make the AFR lean, which does increase power (compartively speaking b/c the wrx runs soooooo rich stock)
IIRC all dyno tests on CAI have been with additonal boost (please tell me if im wrong) thus showing a negation of performance
with all of this in mind my humble opinion would be that CAI (not the AEM one - the issue with that one specificly(sp) is disrupted airflow because of the angle of bends in the pipe) should be benefical on a stock car more so than a car with m/ebc exhaust, IC hoses, etc
is this wrong?

I for one, am not afraid of a CAI. They work, and on tuned cars there is no issue. Plus stock is way beyond too rich in the first place, da-mn 10:1 AFs could use some leaning out.

I think your not seeing results with the XS eng CAI because it was designed to be stock diameter piping (unlike AEM, etc that changes diameter to alter MAF reading) IIRC the xs CAI is more aimed towards people who have FMIC and can not retain the stock airbox system
