Evo: 0-60, 5 seconds; quarter mile, 13.8 seconds, hitting a maximum 101.5 mph at the finish line.
STi: 0-60, 5.1 seconds; quarter mile, 13.8 seconds at 100.3 mph
If you are buying a fast toy to complement the rest of your fleet, Evo, priced $2,000-$3,000 less than STi, makes sense. But if you mean to use the thing routinely, or perhaps are so bold as to want it as an only car, STi's the clear winner.
Funny isn't it?

please man... i watched motor trend tv, i saw the evo run 4.5 0-60, STI is same weight (or close to it) lots more hp/torque. Those times are not close to what they will produce. If you believe that, i beat a Mercialago using my goped

I thought the USA Today reviews were great for the Evo and STi. The articles seemed objective and consistent. Once again, though, the Evo performance numbers are surprising.
Heck, I don't know what to believe abou the Evo and STi times anymore. For the Evo, I've seen forum threads, magazine articles, and video claiming 0-60 times from 4.59 to 5.1 (Evo) and quarter-mile times from 13.185 to 14.1. For the STi, I've seen/read/heard 0-60s from 4.4 - 5.0 and quarter miles from 13.2 to 13.9. The numbers are all over the friggin' place.
I'll be glad when we can start getting some stock STi and Evo drag strip runs from real owners so we can have some more realistic numbers from everyday guys like you and me.

Well, the STi and Evo both have strong WRC-based histories, are targeted at the exact same market, and have nearly identical features (just different executions and technologies). They really compare against one another better than any other two cars I can think of. Comparing them in both the "twisties" (ugh) and the quarter mile seem logical to me given their similarities.
I'm starting to wonder if we'll EVER really get an answer to which one is REALLY faster (even if I see them side by side at the strip). "STi dude has an intake, Evo dude has an exhaust, STi dude can't launch worth a crap, Evo dude sucks at rowing the gears, STi dude has the better lane, Evo dude is hot-lapping, etc.". There will always be excuses and exceptions why one outperformed the other I guess, /sigh.

Alright cool.. Just wanted to see if everyone read that and wanted to get some input on what u thought. I am not buying the ST-i for a straight line car, i still want it to run a decent quarter and high 13's just isn't enough for me.
What does everyone think of the looks of the evo compared to the st-i? I saw an evo in person a few weeks ago and it's so hot in person. I really thought it was ugly in the pics online. The st-i looks hot as hell in pics, so hopefully it will be so much hotter in person!!

it's cool that everyone here would rather praise the STi more than the Evolution, i mean, it is a impreza-club website and that just shows the great support we all have for our subaru's. however, i still give the Evolution credit where credit is deserved. the Evolution isn't your average old mitsubishi eclipse or talon, it's a fully engineered rally-inspired turbocharged monster, much like the STi. now, numbers are just numbers. the quarter mile isn't for cars such as these, although they can put up some good numbers on the 1/4 mile. these cars are the most fun, daily driver car on the market today and we should be glad to have them here, finally. just be glad that for their class, they're pretty unbeatable. everything is subjective however and, as somebody has mentioned, "opinions are like a$$holes, everybody has one."

That was a nice review for the STi and very fair as well as even handed IMHO. The truest part was toward the end;
"The choice could depend on your age as much as anything.
Television show MotorWeek had the good fortune to test Evo and STi back-to-back on a racetrack at Summit Point, W.Va., and found that its younger staff members preferred Evo, the older ones the STi, says producer John Davis.
Being able to use a car comfortably grows in importance as the birthdays accumulate."
The STi better meets my needs, wants and desires.
