why did subaru make the US STi a 2.5L
that means us jdm part lover can't do jdm engine mods
unless we do an engine swap but then we wouldn't pass emission and hav to pay alot of cash for the engine itself
and also why don't we get side fender blinkers and the evo does?

Bigger is better! It's the American way. . . probably for sale reasons. . . but, then again, I don't know. . . ask a Subaru engineer. . .I'm sure he/she will know. 2.5 sounds much nicer than 2.0, which would be equivalent to the EVO, true? Subaru wants to crush the EVO, true? Perhaps!

simple: torque. american consumers want low end torque (after all, this is the home of the muscle car), and the best way to deliver low end torque is with displacement. in other markets, consumers don't seem to as concerned with low end torque as US buyers and are much more accepting of high revving engines with good midrange and high end power. with the STi, the cheapest and most efficient way of getting more torque was to add half a liter of displacement.

I tend to agree.
Being a 100% JDM fanatic, inability to put JDM parts on the STi is one of the things that I am not very happy about. That is why I didn't jump on the STi WRX.
Of course, 2.5L is a very good engine, but JDM aftermarket will not be as big for it as for the EJ20.
Regardless, STi is one hellova car.

You know what? Thank GOD for subaru making this engine for our market because JDM parts are way too EXPENSIVE! It will also give our homeland tuners some credibility to the rest of the world and the fact that we have an advantage of .5 Liters is AMAZING! I don't understand how you guys could be complaining And as a matter of fact, you can still buy so much JDM crap for the car guys, i wouldn't really worry about it. The exhaust flanges are still the same as the 2.0 and so is the intake ducting and suspension, transmission, etc... Everything is pretty much exactly the same but we get a bigger motor, boohoo

"Believe it or not, I have seen some people from Japan who actually want to import the USDM STi motor into Japan!"
THATS what I'm talking about!
Why would you want to be wanting what someone else has when you can have them wanting what you have?
Makes more sense to me to have the "good" one.

I am the biggest JDM nut (I am so hopelessly obsess with JDM that I bought a gray market skyline GTR) and I love the fact that the USDM WRX STi have the 2.5L engine. I bet all those subie nut in Japan is jealous of us US guys right now.
And like someone else mention already, most of the things we can see on the USDM car is the same as the JDM car. Exhaust, intake, intercooler, suspension, cosmatic. The only thing I am not sure is the same is the exhaust manifold.
Look at the JUN demo GDB, they put in a 2.5L block to get the power. So if you really need everything to be from Japan, you can always buy piston/rod/crank from JUN.

The benefit to us is once we begin tuning the USDM car, it will make more power with the extra 0.5L.

yes the 2.5 will give more power.. but the jdm STi is still better because its way faster with a different turbo. the 2.5 just gives us the potential to get even faster.. but the jdm STi is already faster than the usdm sti.. also its 2.0 in japan because it has to be 2.0L for be qualified for rally races. the jdm Sti has a higher compression ratio which is why they have higher octane and the faster stock STi.. but not much faster.. the usdm STi is a beast waiting to be unleashed with its great 2.5L potential.. also it was made to crush the EVO. in power that it.
