Subaru Dealership

(New to posting but i have been veiwing this site for a while now.)
Ok- Just got back from PA subaru dealership, cause i live on Long Island and the one closest to me know just about JACK on the STi. Took the regular WRX on a test drive and fell in love with it right away... my mouth began to water just thinking about how the STi would be. The sales rep (really nice guy and very informative) Told me as much as he could about the new flagship but he mentioned he would know more around the beginning of may, Cause subaru is sending a handful of dealers down somewhere to test the car out with a professional driver. He must then take a test. If he passes the test he gets to track drive the STi. After speaking for about 2 hours with him, I didnt put down the Deposite only because of the color fact. Subaru has said they will be offering White, Black, Blue and Red, i believe, but he mentioned they might make a paint you can only get for the STi. I would like to get that if i could, so im going to wait to see if its true.... Or else im going to go with black.
He said to me the STi would be around $36k, but that subaru might have thrown out a higher number then the actual just to be safe. I was figuring they would make it $29k to match the evo and to win yet anouther year as the best car for under $30,000. But hey are adding alot so i dont blaim them for the price change.
I plan on Mod'ing the car juat alittle bit, so i asked him about diffrent brands that subaru is known to be reliable with... he didnt know. BUT he did tell me subaru started to make ram air intakes and springs to lower the car. kinda cool, but the intake had a foam head and i think i would rather for for ACP or K+N. If anyone knows good manufacturing brands for the following parts that might help alot:
-Intake
-Lowering springs/coils
-(posibly) chip
-Blow off valve
As you can see i dont want to change it that much, but i love working on cars and to have that little kick that you know you added yourself puts a smerk on my face. (also the sound of the intake and blow off valve!!) I dont think im going to change the exaust.
Well thats about all as of now but i alway have my eyes open for new stuff, and hopefully i get to post a picture of a sick looken monster Rex in the future!!!

keep me posted because I'm in it for keeps
I like what you have to say about the STI and you did your homework !!. Anybody who can actually talk to a car salesman for two hours has got my admiration! So, if you hear anything, and I do mean anything of value on the STI please let me know! The dealers around the Charlotte NC area know Jack about the StI, which is predictable! Thanks
Re: Subaru Dealership
Ok let me see if I can help you out a little. The sti will come in 4 colors, black, white, silver and blue. No red. The stock intake will be more than good enough. Plenty of guys running the wrx will tell you that changing the intake really didnt do much. Same goes for the filter. I wouldnt mess with lowering the car because the suspension was deisgned as a package and works as a package. The msrp is rumored to be 30,995 from some pretty good sources. I wouldn't worry to much about modding this car. The car has more power than you can even imagine. I know guys driving the test cars now and they laugh when they see people post about modding the car cause its just so darn fast already.

Just to let you know, Intake on the STI = bad idea (uneccesary/makes power by misreading MAF and leaning out mixture) Stock airbox should be good for big hp numbers. Blow off valve unneccesary unles you are running tons of boost on a bigger turbo. Venting to atmosphere, (the sound you like), also makes the car run really rich in between shifts, (decreases performance. Lowering an STI? are you kidding? Lowering springs are the worst thing you can do to the STI, even with a nice coilover kit, unless you know how to set it up perfectly it will be a step down from the STI suspension. Basically all those mods you wanted to do would just decrease performance and handling.
The only worthwhile thing on your list is a chip, when prodrive or another copany comes out with ECUtek ECU reflashes you can have your car retuned for better performance, but you don't need a "chip" or "piggyback chip" that tricks the ECU and makes more boost and power, its not necessarily safe.
My advice is for STiNrg, JC DEMONTFORT, 2004STI to go to nasioc.com and do some reading about the STI, you'll learn a ton. dlowman knows his stuff listen to him!

If you just do the springs then it will most likely decrease handling. If you do complete package, coilover/stab. bar, depending on how you set it up, it might improve handling. Different people have different ideas as to how the car's handling supposed to be. I like it neutral. Most cars from factories are set up to understeer. I've tried 4 different set-up on my M3 to get the perfect handling (to me anyway) which ends up being about .8" lower than stock.

mods and handling....
mods are great if all you want to do is "personalize", very mod, very chic, very yuppy but the fact remains that the STI is a well designed rally car and all that it implies. An M3 for instance would be as much at ease in a Marocan Rally as a camel in Iceland. We're talking "rally"here. An M3 is only impressive as long as it sniffs asphalt. Let's keep oranges together and keep the modsquad mobiles where they belong.

The STi is rally-inspired, not a rally car. The design was made for high performance street use, and thus belongs in the same environment as the M3.
As for those laughing about adding power....let'em, it's just 300hp. That's not at all weak. It's a good start, but it is certainly no end-all power number to satify all enthusiasts. Now if it were a 2200 lb car, I'd probably say 300hp is perfect, but there will still be others who would want more.

Not simply how will it do offroad....
Rally inspired is well put, but not for the sti. The M3 is not nor will it ever be a rally car (not inspired either). BMW decided to start sending more muscle to the US because many of us were getting tired of the dogs we got for years. The sti IS a rally car barely civilized for the road with AC and the like. I spend quite a bit of time in equatorial Africa and the subarus do well there on unpaved roads whereas any BMW, any, simply falls apart in no time off road, hence in rallies.
The WRX STI and the M3 may be in the same performance category BUT, drive any AWD in the Alps as I have and the BMW will arrive down below much faster because it will be "off road" as in vertical driving, uh, diving.
Now, the real question is, can someone in dire need of the blue and white circular emblem and status step in an STI? Not likely, or should I say, it depends what's more important to this someone, status or raw fun?

1. so how long have you had your sti?
2. where did you receive your degree in mechanical engineering?
3. what is the current bumb and rebound settings on the sti?
3. What type of intake is on the sti? how does an intake affect air flow into the throttle body?
just curious
you can't believe everything you read. so what are your credentials? LOL
