Is the STi REALLY a sedan?
It has back seats but so does my Mustang GT. It has four doors but is there really any useable room back there for passengers? I don't want a minivan but I seriously want the option of taking back passengers in comfort. WRX owners might be able to comment on the room in the back seats.

As currently not being an owner of a WRX I'm forced to ride in them with my friends, and usually in the back seat. I'm 6' tall and 220 lbs. I fit in there just fine. I've never gone on more than a 15 minute trip, but as long as the front seat wasn't back all the way i was comfortable. Remember, the Impreza started its life in three forms. The wagon, the sedan, and the coupe. It's not like the Mustang that has only ever been a coupe. So it is truely a sedan and has usable back seats. And I must say they are more usable than a mid 90's VW golf or jetta.

Definitely
I tried out the back seat of a WRX specifically to see how well a larger person would fit (I'm 6'2" AND 225 lbs.). The headroom is surprisingly good and leg room was reasonably comfortable if the front seats weren't back all the way. I wouldn't want to make a cross-country trip back there but normal length drives and especially for average size folks, totally realistic and practical.
I just got back from a 1 day 584 mile business trip with 3 other
guys and myself in my WRX. The other 3 all drive trucks and
were impressed with the ride and of course the power.
One of them says he had not been in a car he would buy
in years until this trip.

And there wont be a coupe Impreza ever again. Only a few American customers prefere 2 over 4 doors, and the rest of the world doesnt give a crap. Subaru didnt see any reason to spend bookoo bucks and make a coupe along side the sedan like they did before.

Not really, there is only a 15lbs weight difference between a coupe RS and a sedan RS in the 98-01 production years. You dont save weight with a coupe when it comes to Imprezas... And the sedans are actually a stiffer chasis.

Do you really think the WRC car would be a sedan if the coupe was much better?

There are a lot of misconceptions here. Sedan, in the terms of this car, is referring to 4 doors. Coupe, in terms of this car, is referring to 2 doors.
I think the earlier poster was saying coupe in reference to 2 passenger. That WOULD save weight, a lot of it.
I would also like to see a 2 door, 2 person AWD Impreza. I'm not going to hold my breath though.

Neither do I, but I was just curious why Subaru hasn't imported a coupe. It would be nice for them to have a presense in the sports coupe market.

Generally speaking
2 door versions of cars offered as 2 and 4 doors are lighter because there is less hardware and stuff involved by only having two doors. Are the 4 doors really stiffer though? That doesn't seem to make much sense - not saying it's not true.
I personally could go either way, I love my car and think it's fine as a 4 door. I think it would look really sweet as a 2 door, but oh well. One big reason a 2door would be nice (this is gonna sounds dumb) is 2 door cars are usually a lot nicer to cruise in with the windows down, for some reason the longer window takes away buffeting and wind irritation. But, that's hardly a reason to get a completely different style of car. My 3rd and 4th doors have come in pretty handy lately, and overall - I like it. Fun, fast, practical, useful. All at once.
