By no means did i take any offense about what you had to say, infact your input was rather helpful to me. I kind of figured all that you had to say, but i had no one to back up my ideas, so thank you. i do have one other question for you or any body else for that matter. I am looking to build off of the 2004 WRX in every area. However, i do not want a huge amount of turbo lag and reliability is the key. what would you guys do. keep in mind that you don't ahve to go into a huge amount of detail if you don't want to. i'm just looking for stuff like, would you stay with the stock turbo or go slightly bigger, etc. you don't have to name off specific part/part numbers unless you want to.

You mean you are looking to build off the 2004 WRX or WRX STi? I really recommend starting off with the STi, whatever Subaru wants to charge extra for the STi, it would be a super bargain. Subaru gives us SO MUCH stuff for the $10~$12K extra.
I am looking for exactly the same thing as you, a very responsive and reliable car. I would start with the basic, full exhaust with equal length header, air filter, FMIC, programmable ECU, electronic boost controller, max out the stock turbo safely, get the car tune perfectly and see if I am happy with it. If not, get a slightly bigger turbo (ball bearing is the key), some mild cams, port and polish head. I know a very good way to get super responsive reliable power, is to get all the light weight drivetrain component you can put on the car, example:
Carbon fiber driveshaft $1500~$2500
Carbon clutch with light flywheel $2000
aluminum underdrive pulley $300
light weight rims and tires $3000~$4000
light weight brake rotors $500 a pair.
These stuff helps tremendously. The problem is they cost a hell of a lot.

thanks for the ideas about the drivetrain stuff i didn't even think about the carbon drive shafts and things of that sort. the main reason that i was going to start with the WRX and not the STI was the fact that the STI does not get a sound system and other sort of creature comforts. i mean i don't plan on rallying this car, it's just gonna be a daily driver that is fun to drive and can reliably out-perform most cars on the road while still being comfortable.

omg u are a retUrd...people stop posting why not spend 5-6k on a wrx instead of an sti...
its the beauty of the sti which makes it that special... the dccd, acvs, stronger engine...esp 2.5L
i think that people who ask that question dont want us to get the sti =(

In theory the STi motor should fit in the RS. However I would not keep the RS tranny in there. Then there is your biggest problem. Getting a hold of a STi motor and tranny. Good luck. Even if you do manage to find everything you need for the swap ie (motor, tranny, engine computer, and everything else) you are gonna pay a fortune to get all of it. Then there is the down time to swap the motor into your car. Then, unless you know how to, you have to pay someone to put the motor in your car. By the time you are done doing all of this you would have been better off buying a STi to begin with. Because remember you have to find a good motor and tranny set up. And that can be hard to find in a wrecked car. Good Luck!

2.5Speeddemon,
Now that is a good idea, the STi EJ25 in the old model 2.5RS. Since the older car is quite a bit lighter in weight and much better looking IMO.
I don't know for sure if it would fit, but my guess is it will. The worse is need some custom engine mount to make it fit.
