Just wanted to share my sorrow with you guys...just got a call from my insurance company and the insurance for my dad (I said that my dad is buying the car and he will be the primary driver so they do not laugh in my face cause I am 20 and my pops is 48) would be $2500.00/year...are they effing kidding? I hate NJ! I guess they caught on that it is an STI version of the WRX. Anyone in NJ what quotes have your received??? complete outrage! Anyone recommend an insurance co here or a solution? thanx

You should retitle this thread as the "STi Sorrow thread for all people who's dream came crashing down." I feel sorry for you man, I really do but I have a sorrow of my own...
Looks like I won't be getting one either as of today. I can't sell my Mustang GT no matter how hard I try. Used car lots have told me I'm asking way too much. Not one person has called to inquire. Trade in is worth absolutely nothing. Anyway, what I CAN get for it is not worth losing the car over since it is in excellent shape. It just doesn't make sense giving away a perfectly decent car for nothing and then spending another 50 grand on a new one. I wish my current car was ****box and then it wouldn't be a problem.

I am on the phone right now calling every insurance co possible because I know I am getting screwed over with 2500 a year.
Dude, I know it's hard to pass up on the STI, I do have a **** box so it's easier, but I guarantee you that it will pay off with a little wait.

nj manu.
stylin...I would love to have NJM, but I think that it is required that you have a some kind of an affiliation with the union or one of your family member has to be a cop or a fireman etc. etc. I might be wrong if you know something otherwise...thanx I really do not want to give up the STI

Nuke,
You don't have to be a member of anything, maybe years ago but not anymore. They will not give you a quote over the phone. You have to call them and they will send you an application to fill out. Then they'll call you.
You do have to have a clean driving record. And since you are only 20 that may be a problem, I think they might require you to have been a licensed driver for three years or more.
It definetly wouldn't hurt to call them, even if you don't get an STI it will still probably save you some bucks on insurance.

I was quoted last week by my agent with Nationwide a rate of $360/6 months for a WRX as they don't have an STi ('04's) in the computer yet. He said I could reasonably expect approx. a $40 increase to $400/6 months for an STi.
My relatively low rate quote maybe explained by I'm 33, married, live in Northern VA, no accidents/no tix, multi car discount (3) as well as my home insurance policies though my auto insurance is covered under a separate 'Corporate' policy.

Hey, if you're young, always have your mom be the main driver for insurance reasons. Middle aged women have super low insurance if they haven't been in any accidents. Even thought the STi will be my main car, my mom is still listed as the main driver just so its cheaper for them on the insurance.

My graduating class was the first to go 'AAA' in size for a MD HS.
We kicked butt iin everything from debate club & girls field hockey to footbal, baseball and track (I lettered in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field every year from freshman to senior year).
Our football team was undefeated and took state three years straight ('86-'88). Same for _all_ of our track teams which went undedefeated for three years straight at all levels (county, regional & state)...and we also were invited each year to the Penn Relays (prestige!). Our baseball team rocked states in 87 & 88 as did our tennis team and even the golf glub too. We had tons of big brains back in those days with several full scholarship recipients to Harvard, Cornell, a Fulbright scholar and some other goodies.
Back in those days I was a 'super-dork'; tutor for 'Pascal & Basic Programming' as well as English, and Math and as a senior I was asst. instructor for our Drivers Ed. class...and I aced Mr. Johnson's very tough automotive technologies course (a Swede & big time SAAB nut) for three years straight (10-12th) as well as Mr. Hill's woodworking classes (10-12th).
Back in those days I was on a mission to become a mechanical or automotive engineer though while most others took 'shop' class (a double period) to keep their class work load to a minimum and just goofed off. I still have all my books, reference manuals and papers in storage.

Anyway, those were the days....then came the '90's with budget cuts, gangs ('bloods & crips'), drugs, and rap music influences (N.W.A.) which made everyone think they had to be 'hard' to be cool and the next thing you know my sister goes to the same school three years later and its deteriorated into the model for 'Dangerous Minds' or '187'. My parents moved to Germantown and she finished up at Seneca Valley in '92 which at the time was brand new and this year was listed as one of the top 200 HS in America (public or private).
My best friends went to Wooton.
We used to run them in everything from sports to academics. ; )
Today Gaithersburg HS is one of the worst schools in the county. A damn shame.
Every so often I proudly put on my letter jacket which is full of pins & patches from years of tears, sweat & blood on those fields.
Then my wife says; "I wouldn't wear that...it makes you look like Steve Erkel".

I never stepped foot on that campus again after graduation though I drive by when I'm in the area on business and smile. Sometimes if I squint really hard I can see memories of my then 6' and 93lb frame running up RT. 355 toward the main parking lot entrance 'training' a 5 mile 'sprint' with Mr. Tolbert yelling at me; "Go faster, push it....finish strong!"
