STi as a daily driver
I know someone who drives an F40 as his daily commuter, he even leaves the doors unlocked in the open parking lot at work :/
Btw, a friend of mine got some aftermarket fogs ripped out of his Integra while parked at a shopping mall. Some guy pressed a wad of chewing gum right onto my hoodscoop when I was in a grocery store. 10 coworkers had their car badges cranked off with a screwdriver one day at work.
This crap happens, and unless you had secure parking, I'd assume it will happen.

The most common thefts are not with exotic cars but Camrys and Accords. Why? Because the parts are in high demand. Like someone else said, they are swappable with WRXs...so they are definitely "midnite auto supply" material. Unfortunately, insurance rates will likely soon reflect it too.
Nobody can easily swap out and use the go-fast parts from a 360 Modena or a GT2 Porsche...smaller "sales" market.

hi gang
i am using my sti8 for work
driving about 600 miles a week
the suspension is a bit hard but you get
used to it...
no it isnt a $500,000 ferrari....it is soooooooo
much better
as for the gas /mileage
about 230 miles for 47 litres
you work it out....
your gallons are different to ours
gas here is about £0.84 a litre
which is OVER $1.00 a litre
but it is worth it

I agree with much of what you say, but to call WRXs as common as Civics is just plain silly.

The STi engine, interior, rims, etc is swapable to any WRX/impreza before it. Just like the ITR.

My STi will be a P/T daily driver to be swapped with my Pilot and Legacy.
BTW, Mustangs of all vintages, varieties and spec are common in VA/MD/DC. We got everything from vintage Mach 1's & Boss' to '80's 5.0's to modern Cobra's & GT's.
Last week I saw a very rare '66 Coupe while on 95N in Baltimore, an 'SVO' (84-87) on Captial Hill in DC and I've seen a white '74 Mustang II in Vienna at times.
WRX's are common too but Civic 2 & 4 doors are literally everywhere.

Common Cars
There are a LOT of WRX's in the DC area, but they don't lay a candle to all the BMW's and Hondas. It's hard to believe, but sometimes it seems there are more BMW's then Hondas. I know it's silly, it's probably just me seeing what I like.
But at least the STi will force us to be distrinctive.

I can count on one hand how many M5's I've seen on the road since their release in '99 and 540's are extremely rare too.
People here are mostly 'hoodrich' driving around in name brand equipment to impress the neighbors but with the lowest cost item possible. Ever notice there are a bijillion ES300 & RX300's on the roads here but when was the last time you saw an LS, GS, or SC?
It just makes my wife an I laugh outloud!
Remember back in the day when everybody had gold kits?!
